All mortar or concrete that <br />has begun to set before ramming is completed shall be removed from. the work. Cony concrete <br />or mortar that fails to show proper bond, or that fails to set, after in the opz.nion of <br />the City Engineer, it has been allowed sufficient time,.shall b e taken up and replaced by <br />the contractor at his ovrn expense with new concrete or mortar of proper quality. <br />All walks or driveways connecting wi td1 priv~,.te entraces, or any extra work connected <br />with or incidental to the complete performance of this contract, shall be executed by the <br />contractor in a neat and workmanlike manner, in accordance with specifications or the <br />special directions of the City Engineer in each case. Cement vralk in front of driveway <br />shall be seven (7) inches in thickness. <br />Eefore the final release of the work all concrete ~idevralks will be carefully inspected <br />and sounded for defec~, ar_d any hcllaw or othervrise defective blocks shall be cut out and <br />replaced by the contractor at his own expense. <br />PJo concrete sidewalk shall be constructed upon any embankment unless the City <br />Engineer shall consider the same sufficiently settled to afford a stable foundation. <br />Concrete curbs are to be constructed according to the dimensions and form shovm <br />on the plans in the City Engineer's Office, and if constructed upon embankment, the <br />filling shall be done in. accordance with these specifications for sidewalks. <br />Proper forms shall be provided, and after the concrete has been deposited in place, <br />it shall be tamped sufficiently to fill all t'ne voids and flush the mortar to the surface. <br />The contractor shall put in an expansion joint at each street margin of the street <br />and alley and intervals not exceeding one hundred and fifty (150) feet. `j'he joints shall <br />be made b y putting an asphalt composition or cork sheet conforming; to the cross section of <br />the curb one-quarter (1/Lt) of an inch in thickness and the size of the cross-section of the <br />curb. byhen this is done, care shall be taken to see that a free joint exists through the <br />curb. <br />As soon as each section of the curb is canplete, it shall. be covered vrith earth, <br />moistened with tivater,aid kept in that condition during the first seven (7) days after <br />construction in order that the concrete mar properly set. <br />If, after the forms have been removed, there are an~T defects on the top or face of the <br />curbing, or any settlement of the same, +..he City Engineer may order the work reconstructed <br />and the extra work charged to the contractor. <br />,- <br />Armored concrete curbing shall be cons+ructed under the direction of the City <br />Engineer and inprecisely the .same manner as specified for concrete curbing. <br />The contractor must not remove any material from the district until he has ascertained <br />that no more material is r equired b y the property owners within the local improvement district. <br />Payment for concrete sidewalks shall be at the rate bid per square foot and shall be in <br />
