<br />421 <br />chemical extinguishers or other extinguishing devices or materials shall be provided in <br />such quantities as may be direete~d by the Chief of the 3ureau of Fire Prevention. <br />Every marketing station, wholesale storage, port terminal, and other property <br />where flammable liquids are -stored in quantities in above ground tanks shall, as a <br />minimum requirement, be provided with portable foam fire extinguishing equipment. <br />925. STORAGE OF B,AR23ELS AND DRUMS LIMITED. <br />Within the limits given in Section 951, barrels and drums containing Class I, <br />II or III liquids stored outside any building shall not be piled upon each other nor <br />stored in a passageway or beneath any window and no open lights shall be permitted in <br />any such storage yard. <br />926. DRUMS AND BARRELS &NST BE KEPT CLOSED. <br />Drums or barrels for flammable liquids shall have caps, plugs and bungs replaced <br />immediately after package is emptied. - <br />927. SMOKING PROHIBITED. <br />In all rooms or parts of buildings which contain flammable liquids in open <br />containers or in which the vapors from flammable liquids are present, or in which flam- <br />mable liquids are used in any manufacturing process, the carrying of matches is prohibit- <br />ed and smoking shall be a misdemeanor. Suitable "NO SMOKING" signs shall be displayed. <br />928. LIGHTING SHALL BE BY ELECTRICITY. <br />Flammable liquids shall not be drawn nor handled in the presence of open Elam e <br />or-fire, but may be drawn a_nd handled when lighting is by incandescent electric lamps <br />installed in compliance with the "National Electrical Code." <br />STORAGE TANKS <br />~.. <br />. -. <br />951. STORAGE MUST BE OUTSIDE i~tJILDINGS. <br />Except as othorwise permitted in this ordinance, the storage of flammable <br />liquids shall be outside buildings, in underground tanks or above ground tanks; except <br />that the storage in tanks above ground and outside buildings is prohibited within the <br />following limits; Fire Zones 1 and 2. Provided that for existing tanks within such <br />limits, which are properly safeguarded and do not involve a hazard to other property, a <br />permit shall be granted. ' <br />952• UNDERGROUND STORAGE LIMITED. <br />Tanks buried underground shall have the top of the tank not less than 2 feet <br />below the surface of the ground, and below the level of any piping to which the tanks may <br />be connected, except that, in lieu of the 2-foot cover, tanks may be buried under 12 inches <br />of earth and a cover of reinforced concrete at least 5 inches in thickness provided, <br />which shall extend at least one foot beyond the outline of the tank in all directions; <br />concrete cover to be placed on a firm, well tamped earth founda;~iois. 4rherc~ necessary to <br />prevent floating, tanks shall be securely anchored. or weighted. <br />Where a tank cannot be entirely buried, ii; shall be ::overed with earth to a <br />depth of at least 2 feet with a slope on e,ll sides not steeper than 12 foet horizontal <br />to 1 foot vertical.
