<br />shaft opeining, open stairway or other vertical opening.
<br />1606 Where shipping containers containing matches are opened, the contents of such
<br />broken containers shall be removed. a.nd. stored in metal lined bins equipped +r~ith spring
<br />self-closing metal or metal lined covers.
<br />1603 Storage by Retailers. Where matches are sold at retail original sealed
<br />packages may be stored on shelves. ?~t'hen such packages are broken, individual boxes shall
<br />re stored. in metal or metal lined. bins as described. in Section 1606 above.

<br />- GARAGES
<br />1 Ol PERMIT REnUIRiT;. rTo person shall. use e.ny building, shed or enclosure for the
<br />purpose of servicing or repairing any motor vehicle therein, nor use any room or space
<br />having a floor area"exceeding 1,200 snuare feet in any building, shed or enclosure for
<br />storing, hcusing or keeping any motor vehicles containing flammable liquid in the fuel
<br />tanks thereof, without a permit from the Bureau of Fire Prevention.
<br />A priv~_te garage is a building or portion of a building in which one or mere
<br />vehicles or other self-propelled vehicles or other wheeled r..a.chines using volatile
<br />inflammable liquid. for fuel or power shall be housed or kept for private use and in orhich
<br />no business or industry connected, directly or indirectly +r~ith motor vehicles is carried
<br />on.
<br />A public garage is any garage to ovhich the public is invited and~or has access
<br />"to-for a purpose erith.in the scope of the business that is carried on therein, and~or
<br />where are housed for rent, care, repair, demostratiori, storage or sale, four or. more
<br />motor vehicle: or self-propel.Ied behicles or other wheeled machines using volatile
<br />inflammable liquid for fuel or po~~~er.
<br />No person, firm or corporation shall. hereafter e.stabliuh, construct or operate
<br />a. pubi.ic garage unless the building have exterior walls of masonry construction, with
<br />fireproof floors, and all ~rindou~s, doors or other openings abutting on adjacent property,
<br />or on a street, alley or court of less than thirty feet in +aidth, be provided +,~ith wire
<br />glass and metal sash, approved. fire doors, curtains or shutters; provided, no building
<br />occupied as a garage at the time of the pafisage of this act shall be affected hereby,
<br />except the provisions relating to inspection and. examination of buildings and premises,
<br />which provisions shall apply to all buildings no+r~ or hereafter used or occupied as
<br />.Tarages; and, provided, that no enlargement, extension, alteration, replacement or
<br />reconstruction of any building or any part thereof, occupied as a public garage, other
<br />than repairs as defined herein, shall be made except in conformity uaitr. the provisions
<br />of this act; provided, further, the Chief of`the Bureau of Fire Prevention may issue
<br />a permit for the exhibition or automotive vehicles in buildings other than of r~a.sonry
<br />construction +~ahen such precautions and safety plans a.s d.esigned and declared by the
<br />Chief of the Bureau of Fire Prevention shall have been complied with by the applicant for
<br />such permit. Such permit shall: state the place and. period of time for such exhibition,
<br />a.nd shall specifically provide that during such period the Chiif of the Bureau of Fire
<br />Prevention or his deputies shall direct al.l matters in regard. to the safety of human
<br />1_ife and property in such place of exhibition and entrances thereto and exits therefrom.
<br />ELECTRIC `vIIRIidG. All wiring shall be installed in accordance +,vith the
<br />electrical code.
<br />PROHIBITED OCC'TPANCIES: No part of ary building uthich is used as a hotel,
<br />hospital, lodging house, assembly hall, including theatre or moving picture house, shall
<br />be used as a garage, nor shall a.tenemant or apartment house be so used unless the
<br />garage portion be located on the ground with a cement floor and erith the floor above of
<br />fireproof construction, and +mith masonry walls at least S inches thick. The only
<br />openings that shall be permitted in the partitions or +h~alls of the garage portion
<br />leading to other portions of the buildings shall be protected by a single-self-closing
<br />kalamin or sta.nda.rd fire door'; kept normally closed.
