' 4 ri 2 <br />ORDITJl'iNCE N0. 8907 <br />An Ordinsn ce to pf`ovide for the regulation of taxicabs and vehicles for hire, <br />other than regular street bus service, operated between fixed termini, and for a permit for'i <br />drivers of vehicles for hire. <br />WHEREAS, The restricted parking, or down town district of the City of Eugene <br />has }}oecome congested vrith automobiles and relief must be }iad in the securing of more <br />parking space, and <br />V'1}~EREAS, It is deemed necessary by the Coimnon Council of the City of Eugene <br />that a license upon each taxi service and each vehicle, and a permit for each driver <br />is necessary for the proper regulation of the business,_ <br />Now, Therefore; <br />T?~TE CITY OF EUGEidE DOES CF;)AIN AS FOLL(WS: <br />Section 1. Each taxi service or taxi company in the City of Eugene, is hereby <br />i _.. <br />` granted the privilege of using parking space on Willamette Street in the City of Eugene, <br />j Oregon, for one taxi cab or vehicle in each block between Fifth Avenue and Eleventh <br />Avenue in said city. RTO taxi company or taxi service shall be permitted to ~e.rk more <br />j than one vehicle at one time in any one block on Willamette Street between Fifth <br />I Avenue and Eleventh Avenue in the City of Eugene. Meter charges shall be deposited <br />~ by all taxis. <br />Section 2. It shall be unlawful for more than two taxi vehicles to park on <br />one side of any block on Willamette Street between Fifth and Eleventh Avenue at any <br />~ s. <br />i <br />one time. <br />~f Section 3. Tdo driver of a ta;.ieab or vehicle for hire, other than regular <br />street bus drivers, shall be permitted to operate taxicabs or vehicles for hire as <br />i <br />` herein described in the City of Eugene, without first securing from the City Recorder <br />j <br />~ of the City of Eugene a permit to operate vehicles for hire within the City. Such <br />permit shall run from January first in any ,year until December 31st of the same year, <br />j <br />and the applicant shall pay therefor a fee of W1.00. <br />1 Section ~. Each taxicab driver applying for a permit to operate taxicabs in <br />i <br />j the City for hire shall make an application to tl:a City recorder of the pity of Tugeae <br />and such application shall be referred to the Chief of Police who shall fingerprint <br />the applicant, make an investigation into the character, reputation and background of <br />` the applicant, and if the applicant's record shall be satisfactory the Chief of Police <br />t shall report to ~che Recorder and shall receive a permit in accordance with the pro- <br />f visions of Section 3. In case the Chief of Police shall find the record unsatisfact- <br />II <br />{ ory the application s}iall be denied and the applicant shall have the right to apply <br />first to the Police Corr~ittee of the City Council and in case of an adverse ruling <br />i <br />may appeal from the Police Committees findings to the Council directly, and the <br />decision of the Council shall be final. ' <br />
