., <br />55 <br />I~ <br />ORDINANCE N0. <br />WHEREAS, The, City of Eugene has imposed upon it the duty of policing, inspecting a,nd <br />regulating various theatrical and other e:~hibitions, shows and other public amusements, <br />requiring additional operation cost to tre City, and responsibility for the welfare of its <br />,) <br />~ citizens, and - <br />GTHEREAS, theatrical and othe7~ exhibitions, shows and other public amusements have been <br />operated in the City, often taking large sums of money out of the common resources of the <br />I <br />~~ City, and _ <br />I~ <br />ti WHEREAS, the Common Council deems it in the public interest that some return should be ~- <br />made for the privilege enjoyed, the Common Council eneacts tre follo+aing: <br />I ORDINANCE N0. olll <br />An Ordinance levying and imposing a license tax u~oon theatrical and <br />fi other exhibitions, shows, and other public amusements, primarily for <br />regulation, and also for revenue, fixing the amount, and providing <br />for the collection thereof , to be iri lieu of all other city licenses <br />upon theatrical and other exhibitions, shows and other amusements, <br />prescribing penalties, and reyoealing all ordinances and parts of <br />II ordinances in conflict herewith. <br />j THE CITY OF' EUGENE DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br />~? <br />'~ Section 1. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, association or ~orooration, to <br />I~ <br />II operate within the City of Eugene, any theatrical or other exhibition, slow or other public <br />~~ amusement without having fir^.t secured from the City Recorder of the city a license so to <br />~~ <br />~ do. <br />h <br />'~ ~ Section 2. The City Recorder shall prepare an application form to be subscribed by <br />~~ <br />1 <br />1 <br />~f applicants, giving the ap plicant~s name or names, residence address or addresses, place of <br />it business, the character of entertainment and the period of time which the entertainment <br />will be sho~m and the admission charge. <br />I <br />'j Section 3. Ig the Recorder shall find that the applicant has complied with all the <br />I <br />other ordinances and repu?.a.tions of the City, he shall thereupon, upon payment to him of <br />I <br />li X1.00, issue a license to the applicant and keep a suitable record of all of the informa- <br />~ tion contained in the application. So long os the licensee sh~.ll comply with all the laws <br />!~ <br />'~! and regulations of the city and with the terms of this ordinance, he shall be permitted to <br />operate in the City of Eugene. <br />i Section ~+. (a) There is hereby levied and imposed upon every theatrical, and other <br />exhibitions, sho*rr, and other public amusement operating in the City of Eugene, a license <br />~ tax for regulatory and revenue purposes. <br />_ (b) Said license tax shall be measured and determined by computing .three per cent <br />upon the total of the admission charges collected by the licensee. <br />i <br />~ (c) Licensees showing for periods of. one day up to two weeks, shall make a daily <br />{I ' <br />{ statement to the City Recorder of the admission fees collected and accompany the same <br />lip <br />i ?~rith a payment of the license t a.x. <br />(d) Licensees operating permanently in the City shall file with the Recorder monthly <br />statements showing the admission fees for the month, together with a computation of the tax <br />under this ordin=nce and accompany the same with payment of the license ta.x. <br /> <br />
