Action Teams Appendix ill: Detailed Information on Arts Attendance and Budgets 2 INTRODUCTION 18 ArtsPlan is the inspiration of a group of Lane County citizens dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the role of the arts as a vital industry and resource for the Eugene-Springfield community: The goal of ArtsPlan is to build on the community's unlimited potential by utilizing existing talent and facilities in new ways and by uncovering new resources. As state revenue reductions forced many school districts to reduce or eliminate arts curricula and several arts organizations were strug- gling to stay alive, an eight-member steering committee began to develop a strategy to pump new life into the arts scene. During the Summer of 1993, the group identified the following outcomes as crucial to any planning effort in the arts: . Generating community excitement about the arts . Integrating the arts as an important economic development component for Eugene-Springfield . Improving coordination and communication among existing arts organizations . Clarifying local leadership roles in the arts . Stimulating a more strategic and efficient use of community resources for the arts .
