Action Teams <br />Appendix ill: Detailed Information on Arts <br />Attendance and Budgets <br /> <br />2 <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />18 <br /> <br />ArtsPlan is the inspiration of a group of Lane County citizens <br />dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the role of the arts as a <br />vital industry and resource for the Eugene-Springfield community: <br />The goal of ArtsPlan is to build on the community's unlimited <br />potential by utilizing existing talent and facilities in new ways and <br />by uncovering new resources. <br />As state revenue reductions forced many school districts to reduce <br />or eliminate arts curricula and several arts organizations were strug- <br />gling to stay alive, an eight-member steering committee began to <br />develop a strategy to pump new life into the arts scene. During the <br />Summer of 1993, the group identified the following outcomes as <br />crucial to any planning effort in the arts: <br />. Generating community excitement about the arts <br />. Integrating the arts as an important economic development <br />component for Eugene-Springfield <br />. Improving coordination and communication among existing arts <br />organizations <br />. Clarifying local leadership roles in the arts <br />. Stimulating a more strategic and efficient use of community <br />resources for the arts <br />. Helping organize and target fundraising to stabilize arts groups <br />and increase their revenue levels <br />.
