By2020,GreenBuildingistheexpectedmethodofconstructionforcommercial,residential <br />andindustrialbuilding.ConsumersexpectbuildingsinEugenetobeenergy,water,material <br />andresourceandwilluseafullortruecostmethodologytoassessbuildingvalue. <br />Deconstructionandreuseareprevalentandnewbuildingscontributetotherestorationof <br />oursocialandenvironmentalfabric.Alocalbusinessnetworkassociatedwithgreenbuilding <br />andencouragespartnershipswithintheindustryandthe(proposed)of <br />SustainableDevelopment. <br />TheCityofEugeneshouldpubliclycommittosupportingtheexpansionofthelocalgreen <br /> buildingindustry. <br />TheCityofEugeneshouldrequirethatallnewcitybuildingsandcityremodelingprojects <br /> meetgreenbuildingstandards. <br />TheCityofEugeneshouldrequirethatallpubliclyconstructionandremodeling <br /> projectsusegreenbuildingstandards. <br />TheCityofEugeneshouldestablishagreenbuildingaward.Theawardshouldconsider <br /> thebusinesspracticesofthebuilders,contractors,andothersinvolvedintheproject. <br /> Itcouldbecomepartofthe(proposed)Mayor?sannualSustainabilityAwardsand/orother <br /> awardsprograms. <br />TheCityofEugeneshouldsupportongoingeffortstocreatealocalgreenbuildingnetwork <br /> orCascadiachapteroftheUSGBC. <br />TheCityofEugeneshouldconsideradditionalincentivestoencouragegreenbuildingsuch <br /> asthoseproposedbytheCity?sGreenBuildingAdvisoryGroup. <br />TheCityofEugeneshouldsupporttheCity?sGreenBuildingAdvisoryGroup <br /> recommendationsonregulatorychangestosupportgreenbuilding. <br />TheCityofEugeneshouldprioritizetheofappropriateincentivesandin <br /> otherwayssupporttheuseofgreenbuildinginaffordablehousingprojects. <br />TheCityofEugeneshouldcontinueitseffortstodevelop,support,andimplement <br /> acomprehensivegreenbuildingeducationprogramforthelocaldesign,buildingand <br /> constructiontrades. <br />TheCityshouldconsideradoptingtheLaneCountyLaborCouncil?sBuildOregon <br /> Responsibly(BOR)recommendations. <br />Thesustainableforestproductsindustryappliessustainablepracticesthroughouttheentire <br />woodproductsvaluechain:fromupstreamforestmanagementandharvestingtomid-stream <br />millingandprocessingtodownstreamvalue-addedusesandtoretailsales.Valuechainwide <br />sustainabilitypracticesincreasetheenvironmentalhealthandresiliencyofforestswhilecreating <br />jobsandproducingproductsthatthelocaleconomy. <br />Wecouldnotobtaininformationongrowthtrendsinthesector.However,itislikelythatthe <br />growthofthisindustryiscloselytiedwiththegrowthofthegreenbuildingsectorbecausethe <br />U.S.GreenBuildingCouncilrecognizeswoodonlythroughanindependent(third <br />party)suchastheForestStewardshipCouncil(FSC)initsLEEDratingprogram. <br /> <br />
