Thelocalindustryincludessmallwoodlotownersandlargecorporationsthatownormanage <br />timberlandstosawmills,plywood,laminatedbeam,anddimensionlumbermanufacturers, <br />distributorsandretailersofthird-partywood,andcompaniesthatusethirdparty <br />woodincabinetry,furniture,andTwodominantprocesses <br />includetheForestStewardshipCouncil(FSC),whichrequiresindependentthird <br />partyandtheindustrybasedSustainableForestryInitiative(SFI),whichisaself- <br />certifyingprocess. <br />By2020,theuseofsustainableforestproductsbecomesacommonpracticeinbothpublicand <br />privateconstruction,remodeling,cabinetry,andotherwoodusesinEugene.Asthat <br />demandiscreated,localsupplymeetslocaldemand.Afterlocaldemandismet,Eugenebased <br />producersanddistributorsbecomenationalandworldwideleadersinsustainableforestproduct <br />productionandsales. <br />TheCityofEugeneshouldpubliclycommittosupportingandexpandingthelocal <br /> sustainableforestproductsindustry. <br />TheCityofEugeneshouldhelpdriveearlydemandbypurchasinglocallyproduced <br /> sustainableforestproductsforitsownusesandrequiringorprovidingincentivesfortheuse <br /> ofsustainableforestproductsinpubliclyfundedbuildings. <br />TheCityofEugeneshouldcommittogreenbuilding,whichencouragestheuseof <br /> woodproducts. <br />TheCityofEugeneshouldcollaboratewithotherorganizationstorecruitbusinessesthat <br /> cannichesinthelocalsustainableforestproductvaluechain. <br />TheCityofEugeneshouldpartnerwithotherorganizationstoestablishaconsumerand <br /> professionaleducationprogramonforestproducts. <br />Publicbuildingdevelopmentwhenapplicabletowooduse,shallbedirectedat <br />wood. <br />Asenergypricesrise,energyandtheuseofrenewableenergyarebecoming <br />increasinglyattractivetocommercialandresidentialconsumers.Inaddition,increased <br />anddramaticallyexpandeduseofrenewableenergyarevitaltoreducinggreenhouse <br />gasemissionsandresolvingglobalwarming. <br />Energycanbeaspracticesandtechnologiesthatreducetheamountofenergy <br />consumedwhilemaintainingthesamelevelofcomfortandoutput.canincludesolar <br />hotwater,passivesolardesign,highwindows,doorsandinsulation,high <br />motorsandHVACsystems,andothertechnologies.Renewableenergycanbeasenergy <br />derivedfromsourcesotherthanfossilfuelsthatcanbecontinuallyproducedwithoutdrawing <br />downorimpactingkeynaturalresourcesorpeople.Renewableenergyincludeswind,solar <br />electricproduction,waveenergy,tidalenergy,small-scalehydro,biomass,andgeothermal. <br />Expandingtheuseofenergyandrenewableenergyisnotonlygoodforthe <br /> <br />
