K-12programsareparticipatingincampusrecyclingprograms,communitygardens,andother <br />environmentaleducationprograms.EWEBhaspartneredwiththeUniversityofOregonaswell <br />aslocalschooldistrictstoincreaseenergyconservationandprovidefundsforeducation.Lane <br />CountyandtheCityofEugeneparticipateinthestate-wideGreenSchoolsprogram.However, <br />ourresearchalsofoundpotentialinEugeneforincreasedfocusonsustainabilityin <br />operations,facilitiesandcurriculumatlocalschools. <br />By2020,sustainabilityisacorevaluewithinalllevelsoflocaleducationalinstitutions.Faculty <br />andstaffsupportandincorporatesustainabilityincurriculum,administrative,andcampus <br />operationsasacorefunction.Allstudentsgraduatewithahighlevelofunderstandingandskills <br />intheissue. <br />TheCityofEugeneshouldsupporttheofferofLaneCommunityCollegetofacilitatea <br /> processwherebylocalschooldistrictsandagenciesinvolvedwithpubliceducationcanshare <br /> bestpractices,discusscostsandsavingsachievedthroughfacility-basedsustainability <br /> measures,hostcommunityevents,enhanceteachertraining,andpossiblyraisefundstohire <br /> andhouseasustainabilitycoordinatorthatcouldassistalllocalschools. <br />TheMayorofEugeneshalljoinwithotherlocalleaderstoconveneconversationswith <br /> schoolboardsandsuperintendentsaboutsustainability. <br />Accesstoaffordablecapitaliscriticalforthegrowthofanyindustryorbusiness,anditiscertainly <br />neededtotheexpansionofsustainablepractices,productsandservices.Communities <br />acrosstheU.S.andglobehavefoundthatexpandingthevarietyandsizeofandincreasing <br />accessibilitytoisakeytogrowingsustainablebusinesspracticesandproducts. <br />Ourresearchfoundthatavarietyofloans,grants,andotherinstrumentsarecurrently <br />availablefromlocalbanksandcreditunionsaswellaslocalandstategovernmentforlocal <br />entrepreneurs.However,wealsofoundthatmanylocalcompanieseitherdonotknowabout <br />theseoptions,themhardtoaccess,ordonotqualifyforthetypesofcapitalcurrently <br />available.Wealsofoundthatmanylocalinstitutionshavelimitedknowledgeofthe <br />principlesandpracticesofsustainability,howtheirusecanreducerisksandincreasethe <br />viabilityofacompany,orthestrugglesmanylocalcompanieshaveinobtainingfor <br />theseventures. <br />By2020localbanks,venturecapitalinvestmentcompanies,andgovernmentfunding <br />agenciesunderstandtheprinciples,practicesandofsustainabilityandhaveawide <br />assortmentofinstrumentstoprovidecapitalforsustainablebusinessdevelopment.Abrochure <br />isdevelopedwhichinformsborrowersofvariousgovernmentalandprivatelendingoptions <br />withanemphasisonspecialfunds,suchasGreenCDs,energyloans,community <br />reinvestmentloansandothersociallyresponsibletools.Thesetoolsareavailableforuse <br />bysustainablecompanies.Financialinstitutionsapplysustainabilitypracticesintheirown <br /> <br />
