<br /> In 2002, the Universi~ of Oregon began a comprehensive update of its East.
<br /> Campus Development Policy. The goal of the update was to provide for the
<br /> future campus land needs without diminishing the quality of the surrounding
<br /> neighborhood. Since the 1982 adoption of the SAS, the Universi~ has
<br /> developed numerous facilities within the East Campus area (Knight Law
<br /> School, Museum of Natural Histo~, Graduate Student Housing, East Campus
<br /> Children's Center). The area's development potential, as constrained by SAS
<br /> policies, Universi~ East Campus policies, and Universi~ Long Range
<br /> Development Plan policies, had been almost maximized.
<br />
<br /> The amended Land Use Diagram (Map 6) reflects the expanded Institutional
<br /> area, Limited High Density Residential/Limited Institutional area, and Low
<br /> Density Residential buffer established to meet the goal of the policy update.
<br /> The Universi~ utilized an extensive public involvement process in forming the
<br /> update, including numerous open houses, meetings, and mailings to the
<br /> Fairmount neighbors and the neighborhood organization. Neighbor
<br /> comments were considered in the development of the Universi~'s 2003 East
<br /> Campus Development Policy and were incorporated into the policy as
