The bottom line is that the public input process Was very comprehensive, very
effective, and changed and improved what we would have done on our own.

The resulting proposal before you represents compromise by both the neighbors
and the university that led t° new ideas and creative thinking. Over 30 re~,iSions
and/or additions (some of them very significant) were made to the university's
policy in direct response to neighbors' comments prior to submittal. An
additional 19 revisions were made during the city's mediation process.

The .Planning Commission's unanimous vote of approval signifies that these
efforts were comprehensive and worthwhile.

The university and neighbors agree on the overall strategy proposed to
implement the proposal's main goal: to provide for the expansion of the
institution, based on its needs, without diminishing the quality of the
surrounding neighborhood.

We listened carefully to neighbors and made sure we addressed the three
primary issues:

the campus edge,
· traffic, and
· parking,

'Others here tonight will provide some details about these.

Thank you.

City Council Agenda page 270 2
