The CPR process is helping to build partnerships in the arts and culture sector, and the
outcomes and projects identified will directly contribute to the enhancement and
promotion of Eugene’s arts and cultural assets.

?
2008 Olympic Track and Field Trials Preparation
Securing the 2008 Olympic Trials for Eugene has already had a significant impact on
development of the arts and outdoors identity and has the potential for even greater
benefit. This event provides a unique opportunity to showcase Eugene’s arts and outdoors
assets on a national and international stage. Athletic, educational and cultural offerings
will be expanded leading up to and during the event, and opportunities to leverage the
“World’s Greatest” branding by teaming it up with the Eugene’08 branding are under
discussion.

ELEMENT V – Project List Development

Some of the projects originally identified in this element include:

?
Public Art Plan/Public Art Committee
An interim Public Art Committee is now serving until a permanent committee is in place.
(Attachment B) After making a recommendation regarding the public art proposal for a
Eugene Japanese American Memorial, the committee is beginning work to evaluate
additional public art proposals, review the City's catalogue of sites for future public art
projects, and provide recommendations on donations and general acquisitions for the
City's public art collection. This committee represents the first phase in developing the
framework for the City’s public art master plan.

?
Community Celebrations of 100 Years of Parks and Hendricks Park
Centennial
The Parks and Open Space Division held a number of activities through out the year to
celebrate the 100th anniversary of Eugene parks. The first annual Children's Nature Film
Festival in April was attended by more than 650 people. Over 150 past and present
employees, volunteers, and community members gathered on September to celebrate
Hendricks Park’s 100th Birthday. This historic event included a look back at the
changes over the last 100 years, and a toast to the next 100.

th
?
Community Celebration of the Hult Center’s 25 Anniversary in 2007

In August, the Cultural Services Advisory Committee (CSAC) presented their
recommendation for a series of community events in September 2007 to celebrate the
th
Hult Center’s 25 birthday. Celebrating Hult 25 will consist of a weekend of 25 hours of
entertainment showcasing the artistic excellence of the Hult Center’s eight resident
companies, as well as a special, yet-to-be-named entertainer. A formal recognition
dinner will celebrate individuals who made the Hult Center a reality through their support
for construction of a world-class entertainment facility.

?
Additional Projects
Additional City projects and initiatives not specified in the original action plan have
served to strengthen and promote Eugene as a world-class center for arts and outdoors.
