Pyle <br />Stien Bros. <br /> <br />l2,813.60 <br />12, 401.10 <br /> <br />~ <br />{<.": <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Said bids were referred to the Street Commi ttee for re:port and such <br />Committee recommended the bid of, Hargreaves & Lindsay ~t $11,669.35 be accepted. <br />On motion, such repor~' was adopted, and the Mayor and Recorder, directed to enter <br />liltbcacontract wi th such successful bidder for the perfor~nce of such work. <br /> <br />The Sewer Committee recommended that the bid of Oscar, Snow at $26,224.00 <br />as his bid for constructing the sewer on Sycamore Avenue from Jefferson Street to <br />Polk Street, which bid was held over from the meeting of May 28, 1928, be accepted, <br />and the Mayor and Recorder were instruc ted to enter into a c.ontract wi th such suc- <br />cessful bidder for the performance of such work. <br /> <br />.qommittee .reports were called for:--- <br /> <br />~he Judiciary, Committee reported on the application of J. M. Moore to <br />sell his abattori'north of the City according to the terms as therei~shown, and <br />further s.tating that Moore is willing to reduce mhe. price of such at3fer to $20,000.0 <br />and reduce the acreage to four acres and aft~ discussion, Chairman McCully of such <br />Committee recomended that an option be taken to purchase such abattoir according to <br />the offer made as varied by the subsequent offer. After further discussion as to <br />the advisability of making such purchase, such matter was laid over until the next <br />meeting of the Council for further consideration. <br /> <br />The Judiciary Committee and the City Attorney reported on the claim of <br />Margaret Smith for person injury to herself on a sidewalk in the City,. stating it <br />would be possible to make a settlement wi th Mrs. Smith, and asked that authority be <br />given to such Committee and the City Attorney to make a reasonable settlement <br />with Mrs. Smith. On motion, such authority was granted. <br />(The City Attorney later reported to the Recorder such settleaBlt has been made for <br />$100.00. ) <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />. The Judiciary Cammi ttee reported on the proposed ordinance regulating the, <br />sale of jewelry by auction within the City, and moved that such ordinance which has <br />been previously read, by adopted. The Recorder then read such ordinance a second <br />time. A motion was then made and duly carried that such ordinance be filed and not <br />indexed, Councilman Washburne voting no. <br /> <br />The Finance Committee recommended that all bells as approved by the Finance <br />C ommi t tee be pa id, whi ch are se t out in full at the end of the minute s. <br /> <br />The Street Committee reported on the petition by residents thereon to re- <br />surface a portion of 13th Avenue East and other streets adjacent thereto as are othe <br />streets in the City in which the,street car lines previously operated, and stated <br />shch Committee could not see its way financially clear at this time to do such <br />improvemen t work, and rec ommended the mat ter be postponed. On mot,ion such repor t <br />was adopted. ' <br /> <br />The Street Committee reported on the petition to pave Jackson Street <br />between 8th and 9th Avenues, recommending such petition be granted. On motion such <br />report was adopted. <br /> <br />:'rhe Fire & Water, Committee reported it has not yet been able to see the <br />Water Board so as to make a proper report relative to additional lights in the <br />Chula Vista District, and such matter was continued. <br /> <br />The Fire & Water Committee reported it has had a communication ~rom Judge <br />Harris, as to the need of additional lights in the vicinity of aeights Boulevard as <br />the moral conditions there are none too good owing to the lack of lights, and also <br />such committee stated a fire hydrant is badly needed in such vicinity. Such <br />Committee reco~nended that a fire hydrant be installed at the most available place <br />ther~at, and also one or more lights as needed be installed as petitioned for. <br /> <br />The matter of paint~ng the fire trucks was again mentioned, and it was <br />stated the fire department wishes to wait until after the rainy season before such <br />work is done. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The matter of the menace of earwigs to the City was brought up and discusse <br />and the earwig ordinance produced and read. It was finally moved and carried that <br />the matter be gone into thoroughly and if needed, a man be hired to look after the <br />situation to see that the warwig menace is disposed. of. <br /> <br />The Printing Committee reported it has had one or more bids for printing <br />the City ordinances in bo oR form, but asked for addi tional time in which to" get <br />additional bids. Such time' was granted.. <br /> <br />, The Police Committee spoke of the referred matter to make Alder Street <br />through the City a stop street both ways, and stated the matter was being investigate <br />and that such Committee is not yet ready to report. <br /> <br />~ <br />
