<br /> Counc ilman Reid of the Health Commi ttee then moved that the Cit,y appoint a full ~,
<br /> time Meat and Milk Inspector. This motion was seconded by Councilman Washburne,
<br /> who later explained his second was meant for the fi rst motion which was ruled out
<br /> of order, and he then vathdrew his second to such motion. James Moore and Broder
<br /> Bro s. both spoke as'to the need of a full tin~ Inspector and further disc~ssion was
<br /> had.' Councilman Reid then moved that a full time Meat and Milk Inspector be
<br /> appointed to start the first of the coming month. This motion was seconded by
<br /> Councilman Washburne and the roll being called thereon, Councilmen Washburne, Lamb,
<br /> and Reid voted aye, Councilmen Large, Rl~h, and Hendershott voted nay, Councilmen
<br /> McCully and Monroe being absent and not voting. The vote being a tie .Mayor
<br /> Williamson voted nay, thus declaring the motion lost.
<br /> The report of_L. G. Helterline as,Meat and Milk Inspector was presented
<br /> and filed.
<br /> Street Commissioner LaVan filed a petition asking that the men of the
<br /> Street Department each be given a vacation on pay during the summer months, in
<br /> conformity with vacations had be employees of other departments. On mo tion sp.ch
<br /> request was granted.
<br /> The Recorder read a communication from ~s. E. C. Adams of West 8th Street,
<br /> complaining that the Street Department in mowing the grass on Lot 16, of Huddles-
<br /> tons Addition, crossed her sidewalk with the mower and horses, breaking seven
<br /> squa.t?es of walk, and asking that the same be repaired at City expense. Such
<br /> matter was referred to the Street Commissioner for a report at the next meeting
<br /> of the Counc il.
<br /> A petition was received from residents thereon, asking that 12th Avenue
<br /> from Char.nelton Street to Polk Street, with the exception of the Block between
<br /> Van Buren Street and Tyler street be paved wi th either :plain concrete Vibroli.~hie
<br /> concrete, or Warrenite Bitul~thic pavement. Such :peti tion was referred to the
<br /> Street, Commi ttee fororeport. \
<br />I The l' eport of the Viewers in the propo sed o:pening of Almaden Street be tween
<br /> 2nd and 3rd Avenues, was :presented and considered. After discussion, the matter
<br /> was left in the hands of the Street Committee to investigate as to the advisability
<br /> of ado:pting such report, and to present its report thereon at the next meeting of
<br /> the Council.
<br /> The report of the Viewers in the :proposed o:pening of Tyler Street from
<br /> 8th Avenue to a point 60.3 feet South of 9th Avenue was filed. Said re:pert was
<br /> read and considered. After discussion it was carried that such report be indef-
<br /> initely laid on the ta b le .
<br /> The report of the Viewers in the :proposed o:pening of Polk Street from 12th
<br /> Avenue to the South City limits was read and duly considered. On motion" such
<br /> report was adopted and an Ordinance accepting such report was read the first time
<br /> and laid over.
<br /> A letter was received from James A. Lathrop, Tax and Right of Way Agent
<br /> for the Southern Pacific Railway lines, as to the City acquiring the ri gh t .of
<br /> way on Columbia Street between 23rd and 24th Avenues, which matter was .r,eadc.ana.
<br /> discussed. Such matter was referred to the City Engineer to consider and deter-
<br /> mine what portions of the right of way ovmed by the Southern Pacific Company may
<br /> be needed by the City for Street purposes, and re:port at the next meeting of the
<br /> C ounc il.
<br /> The City Attorney reported on the matter of a zoning ordinance prohibiting
<br /> Auto camps within one and one half miles of the center of the intersection of
<br /> Alder Street and 13th Avenue~ and presented an ordinance to that effect, which was
<br /> read the first time and referred to the Judiciary Committee to'report on at the
<br /> next meeting. AttorneyL. L. Ray appeared on behalf of Mr. Jones, who is contemplat
<br /> ing establishing an Auto Camp GroUl1d in that end of the City, and a letter was
<br /> read 'from Mrs. Dr. Gullion, who was the prilfje mover in get't.img such zoning o,rdinanc
<br /> prepared, which letter seems to c nvey the idea she has changed her mind r.elative
<br />I to such camp grounds, and further conveying the idea she is in favor of such camp
<br /> instead of preventing the same.
<br /> An Ordinance levying assessments for paving 16th Avenue from the West line
<br /> of Olive Street to the East line of Lincoln Street, having been read the first
<br /> time on June 13, 1928, and notices for :protest having been sent by registered mail,
<br /> and no protests being f'iled, such ordinance was read the second time and passed
<br /> its third reading by title by unanimous consent under Euspension of the rule and
<br /> was placed on its final passage. The ayes and nays were called, all 'Present
<br /> voting aye. Absent and not voting, ~fuCully and Monroe. Said ordinance was declare
<br /> passed and numbered 6956.
