M., February 11, 1929. Council was called to order by Mayor H. E. <br />Wilder wi th all C ounc ilmen present. <br /> <br />Minu tes of t,he regular mee ting of January 14, 1929, of the Spe cial mee ting <br />of January 22, 1929, of the adjourned meeting of January 28, 1929, and of the <br />Special meeting of January QO, 1929, approved. <br /> <br />T,he Finance Committee recommended that the report of the Hobi~JAirways Co. be <br />referred to the Judiciary Committee and[ the City Attorney.. <br /> <br />The Finance Committee recommended the following bills for payment, and also <br />that Helen Delin be placed on the regular monthly pay roml at a salary of $100.00 <br />per month, and a warrant be drawn in her favor when other salary warrants are <br />drawn. Motion was made and seconded to ~dopt the report of the Committee. The <br />ayes and nays were called, all Councilmen voting aye, nay, none. <br /> <br />The Fire & Water Committee recommended that the, petition from Mr. Maltman <br />to move the house at the corner of 6th and Olive Streets be granted with the <br />und.erstanding that it shall be moved on a concrete foundation to be placed 15 <br />feet West of the West line of the alley, in a manner acceptable to the City Build- <br />ing Inspector, and. in compliance with the general building requirements. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Fire & Water COfilmittee also recommended that Fire trucks and Fire equip- <br />ment and ambulances in the City of Eugene when going to a fire or an accident be <br />instructed that they should not exceed a speed of 25 miles per hour within the <br />fire limit s of the Ci'ty of Eugene, ,and not to exceed Q5 rniles per hour a t any <br />pla ce, an d that upon th e re tUl~.n trip of :the':Fira,~ap,:paEa.,tus, or' ambulance after <br />having delivered the patient, that, such vehicle shall not exceed a speed of 20 <br />miles per hour, except in the 2eturn trip of the fire trucks to the Fire Sta'tion <br />tor extra equipil1ent shall not be deemed a return under this direction. On motion, <br />the two foregoing recommendations were adopted by the Council. <br /> <br />The Fire & Water Committee reported as follows regarding the disposition of <br />Rex Reed funeral expenses, and payment of liens against his property, vix: Lot 8, <br />, Block 5, Chambers Addi tion: <br /> <br />The, Fire & Water Committee of the Common Council of the City of Eugene <br />de sir e to r~ port upon the ma t tel' of the assi stance to be ,rendered by the City <br />to the widow of Rex Reed, who was recently killed in an accident on one of the <br />City's fire trucks, that they recommend to the Common Council that the City paving <br />abutting on the Rex Reed home and the assessment for the sewer serving the Rex <br />Reed home be cancelled as to principal and interest and that the City appropriate <br />a sufficient amount to be added to the allowance to be made by the vvorJr~an' s <br />co mpe nsa t ion flbr.c the.:.:; funb,.ra'l ,o:f::: ReklRe ed;; t Q',TC o1Z:.ar~ t:he ','err td:.r e''f.;lli-'l.era,}l0 8'xpanse s. <br /> <br />This allowance is made in view of the unfortunate situation in which Mrs. <br />Reed is left by reaons of the accident and is intended to s~pplement the work- <br />LUen's compensation allowance which she will receive in the SULU of $46.00 per <br />month, together with an add.itional allowance from the Government, thus aiding <br />her in meeting the expenses of this unfortunate situation. The ayes and nays were <br />called, all Councilmen voting aye, nay, none. <br /> <br />The Health Committee made an oral report on the sanitary condition of Auto <br />Camps. <br /> <br />The '1>oiice Committee again present,ed its recommendation for increase in <br />salaries for the Police Department, and on sug:c,~'estion of the IvIayor that other <br />departments were also urging consi~eration the same line, the matter of salary <br />adjustments was left to be considered by the Council, and all adjustments to be <br />made at one tjme. <br /> <br />~ <br />
