<br />Minutes of the regular meeting of the Common
<br />.hour or 7:;00 o'clock P. M.; on May 10,1929. There were
<br />and all member's of the Council, except Reid and Monroe~
<br />order by the Mayor.

<br />Mrs. IvIa;xham and 1'ro1"essor DeCou appeared before. the Council request-
<br />ing tl~t the Council rescind its approval of the Park plan previously submitted,
<br />and both parties urged the employment 01" Mr. Otten, whom they recommended highly
<br />as a competent landscape architect. A motion was made by Councilman Washburne
<br />that the Council rescind its fromeI' action, and accept the recommendation for
<br />the employment 01" ~~. Otten at an estimated cost 01" about $1,250.00, to work out
<br />a plan of landscaping for the Butte Park, and that a plan of financing be taken
<br />up by the Finance Committee with Mr. Otten, with the possibility of arranging
<br />payments so that part of the cost can be met next year. Motion was seconded and
<br />carried.

<br />M~r. Percy Patterson presented a request to the Council for some
<br />relief from his assessments on account. o:r, the taking of 17th Avenue for Street
<br />purposes, and re-location of the Amazon Drainage Ditch through his property,
<br />which had made it impossJ.ble t"orthim to have access to his lots. The matter
<br />was ref'erred to the Street and Sewer Committees, the City Engineer, and City'

<br />At t orney H. C. Heffron appea.red before the Council in reference to
<br />the aSl?essments which have been placed against various properties in Lot 2,
<br />Block 24, FairJnount, at Franklin Boulevard and Villard Streets, and the matter,
<br />involv ing investigation of details was l'13ferred to the City Attorney and City
<br />Engine er.

<br />Chairman Large of the Financl3 Committee recommend.ed that the City
<br />purchase a No.8 Marchant calculat ing maehine for the Treasurer's off'ice, at a
<br />cost 01" $425.0'0, the terms of' payment belng one half on delivery, and one half'
<br />~o be paid in ,January, 1900.

<br />Th3 Finance Committee also rl3commendted that. the following bills be
<br />paid. The ayes and nays were called, all present voting aye,.abs6lnt and, not
<br />voting, Reid, anq. Monroe. Such bi lIs wex'e ordered allowed.

<br />Ch.l3.irman Lamb of the Street Committee recommended that the petition
<br />for paving the alley between Olive and Charnel ton, from 16th to 17th Avenues
<br />be granted, and the recommendati on was, on moti on, duly adopted.

<br />Chairman Hendersho tt of the ]!'ir e & Wa tel' C ommi t tee recommended the
<br />granting Of a petition for the installation o:rornamental Street lights on
<br />Charnelton Strl;Jet from Broadway South to loth Avenue, on Olive Street from lOth
<br />Avenue North to Broadway, and on Broadway from Olive Street West tro Charnelton
<br />Street, and on mo~ion suc~ recommendation was duly adopted, and the City A~torney'
<br />was direc ted to prepare the necessary ordinance for carrying into .eft'ect the'
<br />ornamental l~~lting program on the Streets above designated, and also on 10th
<br />Avenue, in accordance with a petition heretofore approved by the City Council.

<br />Chairrmn Zumwalt of the Hea,1ijh Committee moved that the Council
<br />lay on the table the proposed Health Ordinance relating to Hotel and Restaurant
<br />employees. Motion seconded and carried.

<br />CiijY Attorney Calkins reported that he had been unable to get in
<br />touch with the man in the Salvation Army who owned one or the lots at the

<br />Chairman Lamb of the Street C:ommittee recommended the granting of
<br />the petition for paving the alley between Willame tte and Olive Streets from
<br />6th Avenue to l5th Avenue, and the recommendation was, oLl motion, duly adopted.

<br />Regort of the Building Inspecltor for the month or April, and of
<br />the Eugene Public Library were read and l>laced. on file.
<br />
<br />Application of Mrs. E. A. Cole for a rooming house permit to
<br />conduct the Yaljes Hotel, approved by Chiel" of Police Strait, was on motion,
<br />granted.
