There were present <br />the Mayor and all members of the Council" except Monroe. Meeting called to order <br />by the Mayor. <br /> <br />11r.. Hugh Rosson, Manager 01' tihe Pageant" asked for all the concess- <br />ions in the Park Blocks near the Court House, including the closing 01' the <br />Streets to traffic during the days 01' July 24th to G7th, inclu6ive. F. Hyde stated his position with reference to the circulating oi' <br />a petition for paving Indiana Street from Agate Street to Columbia. Street. He <br />expressed a desire to have the improvement continued one block East from Colum- <br />bia Street on Indiana Street, stating that he had rei'rained from circulating a <br />petition at thE~ request of the petition eirculator, for the first mentioned part <br />01' the Street, and asked that the matter be laid over for consideration as one <br />continuous pro~ject. The matter was re1'e.r'red to the Street CO$nittee. ~ <br /> <br />ThE~ Judiciary Committee, by Chairman Washburne, reported the matter <br />oi' objectionable cigarette advertisementEi on billboards has beeIJ" taken up with <br />the vari ous bi Ilboard advert isers, and ob je c ti onable posters eliminated, and <br />that they had secured the promise of theEle people that no 1'urther oQj3ctionable <br />cigarette postt:lrs will be displayed in Eu.gene. <br /> <br />Tht:l JUdiciary Committee also reported a recommendation that the radio <br />ordinance, rei't:lrred to th.em at, the last meeting, was satisfactory, and recommen- <br />dedit for passage. <br /> <br />Th€i Judiciary Committee also reported the request for the right to <br />put on an Air Circus on two afternoons du.ring the llSunset T.t'ail" Pageant, stating <br />that the same 'would be in harmony wi th the arrangement of the Hobi Airways Co., <br />and recommendeal that the Council's consent be 'given. On mot,ion duly seconded <br />and carried, all of the mattel"s above reported and recommen(ied by the Judiciary <br />Commi ttee, Wer€i approved by the Council. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The S tree t C ommi ttee recommended tffi tape ti t ion for the grading and <br />gravelling of a.lleys be tween 19th and GO th Avenue s, and On.>rx and Eme~ald S ts. <br />be extended to cover from 18th to 20th Avenues, and that the Council determine to <br />impro ve the sarrIS. The rec ommen dati on was on mo,ti on adopt ed.. <br /> <br />An explanation by the Street Committee of the Percy Patterson assess- <br />ments was had, a1'ter which the matter was continued in the hands 01' the Street <br />Committee for f~ther consideration. <br /> <br />" <br />The, -Fire & Water Committee by Chair'man Hendershott, reported a bid <br />of the Fleyd Wilson Lumber Co. i'or the purchase oi' the old fire motor at $12 5.00, <br />which was, on motion rejected. <br /> <br />The Fire & Water Committee also reported the proposal of the Euge-ne <br />Water Board to install boundary lights on the Aviation fi'ield, on the following <br />basis: <br /> <br />AIRPORT BOUNDARY LIGHTS <br />COST ON MONTHLY INSTALn\ffiNT BASIS <br /> <br />The cost of lamps to replace those burned out and the labor to <br />replace t;!1e m is not included in this est.ima te. There should be about <br />three lamp replacements per year, or 120 at 68 cents each, amounting <br />to ;jp81.60.
