<br />on June 10,1929, and registered notices for protest having been sent, and now no
<br />protests being received, the ordinances were read the second time, and passed
<br />their' third readings by ti tIe by unanimous consent under suspension 01' the rule,

<br />as to the proposed widening of Columbia Street 1'rom 8;ar'd Avenue to Indiana Avenue,
<br />in the Ci by of Eugene, Ul'egon, by adding 11 fee t to the width thereof', vvas read
<br />the first time, and passed its second and third readings by title by unanimous
<br />I consent under suspension of the rule, and was placed on it s final passage . The
<br />ayes and nays were called, all Councilmen voting aye, nay, none. The Ordinance
<br />was declared passed and numbered 7498.

<br />An Ordinance adopting the survey, plat and report of the City Engineer
<br />as to the proposed opening of Emel'ald Stree t from the South line of .:::4th Aven ue
<br />to the Nor'th line of 25th Avenue, in the City of Eugene, Oregon, was read the
<br />first time, and passed its second and third readings by title by unanimous consent
<br />under suspension of' the rule, and was placed on its final passage. The ayes and
<br />nays were called, all Councilmen voting aye, nay, none. The Ordinance was declared
<br />passed and numbered 7499.

<br />Notice having been given by publication, of the reassessing 01' paving
<br />on Villard Street, <,:.nd setting a date for a hearing, and now no protests being
<br />received, an Ordinance levying assessments for paving Villard Street from Franklin
<br />Boulevard to Fairmount Boulevard in Eugene, Lan.e County, Oregon, as the same abuts
<br />upon the South 277 feet of' Lot 2, Block 24, Fairmount in Eugene, Lane County,
<br />Oregon, was read the first time, and passed its second and third readings by ti tIe
<br />by unanimous consent under suspensi on of. the rule, and was placed on its final
<br />passage. The ayes and nays were called, all Councilmen voting aye, 'nay, none.

<br />A general discussion of the pro posed mea t Ordinanc e was had, in which
<br />Mr. Gibson, Mr. Breder, and also L. S. Leech, a repsesentative from the office of
<br />the State Dairy & food CommiSSioner, J., D. Mickel, appeared before the Council,
<br />after which the Ordinance ~nending Section 6 01' Ordinance No. 6557, by fixing a
<br />place for the i~spection 01' meats, and. impsoing of a license ree theref~, having
<br />been read the first and second times on May 16th, 1929, now coming on for further
<br />consideration, the Ordinance as read was, on motion duly seconded and carried, ,
<br />amended by substitution ot' the follo'i ing rates in place ot' those previously proposed
<br />one beef, 50 cents; one hog, 25 cents; on veal, G5 cents; one sheep, 25 cents:
<br />also bV elimination of the proposal to rurnish twenty-four hours free cold storage,
<br />and cold storage thereafter at the rate or 25 cents per day. The Ordinance as
<br />I amended, was read the third time, and placed on its final passage. The ayes and
<br />I nays were c.alled' all COUIlcilmen voting aye, nay, non.e. The Ordinance as amended
<br />was declared g:hu1y passed, and numbered 7501.

<br />At this time, the Committee to whom the bids fof construction 01' ornamen-
<br />tal Street lighting system were referred, reported back to the Cou4cil a compilation
<br />of the bids without recommendation, and the Council entered into an exhaustive
<br />study of' the various posts exhibited, and after full consideration, a motion was
<br />made, seconded and carried that the Council finds and determines that the best
<br />bid received in consideration ~ quality, price, and material and appearance is
<br />the bid 01' NePage IvlcKenny Co. f'or proposal No. 28, at a total 'price o;f $8,699.00,
<br />said bid covering Westinghouse Electric Man~acturing Co. Hoi&owspun Granite Post,
