Meeting called to order by the <br /> ~b.~' <br /> fc:~) 'I Mayor. <br /> (, ~, , <br /> ~II stated that County Assessor Keeney had granted an <br /> C':}j City Attorney Calkins <br /> extension of t,ime for making a report of the City levy until December 20th. <br /> II Reports of Hobi Airways Company for the month of September and the Public <br /> II Library for the month of October were placed on file. <br /> II A letter of protest was read from the Circuit Judge and Count.y Court <br /> II against the p.r'oviding of hi tching racks on the street abutting the court house <br /> Ii <br /> I on the north. <br /> I <br /> I The fol.lowing resolution, reducing the assessment against Lot One in Block <br /> I <br /> i Six of Cheshi.r'e's Addition, Eugene, Oregon, from $459.70 to $247.55, was on <br /> II <br /> II motion duly ad,opted; <br /> " <br /> Ii RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> ,I <br /> Ii <br /> 'I <br /> II Whereas, by Ordinance No. 4195, passed by the Common Council and approved <br /> ,! <br /> I! <br /> Ii by the Mayor on June 23, 1924 , the City of Eugene did levy an assessment for the <br /> I' <br /> Ii <br /> !I construction of a cement sidewalk on the South side of First Avenue betwee~ <br /> il <br /> II Madison Street and the curb line on Jefferson Street, and also on the West side <br /> II <br /> I, <br /> ,I <br /> I, <br /> " of Jefferson Street between the curb line of First Avenue and Second Avenue in <br /> " <br /> :[ <br /> I, <br /> II Eugene, Oregon, against Lot One (1), in Block Six (6) of Cheshire's Addi tion to <br /> II <br /> II I <br /> I, the City of Eugene, Oregon, in the sum of $459.70, and <br /> " <br /> " <br /> " <br /> Ii <br /> Ii Whereas, it now appears that said assessment was excessive and erroneous, <br /> :1 and that in fact the cost of said improvement was the sum of $247.55, and <br /> :, <br /> I <br /> I, <br /> " <br /> II Whereas, by reason of said erroneous assessment said. described property <br /> :1 <br /> II was ove I' assessed to the extent and in the sum of $212 .15. <br /> j; <br /> 'I <br /> Now Therefore, be it resolved that the Common Council of the City of <br /> Eugene, Oregon, does hereby reduce said original assessment to the extent and in <br /> the sum of $212.15. Said reduction to be considered as made as of the date when <br /> ii <br /> said original assessment was made, to-wit, June 23, 1924, leaving the amount <br /> assessed against said property at said time $247.55. The Recorder and Treasurer <br /> are hereby authorized and directed to ma:ke such correction on the Lien Docket <br /> and records of the City of Eugene, Oregon. <br /> A pe tition for the vacation of a :portion of Maple AITenue was read and <br /> filed. <br /> Attorney Fred E. Sini th calledattentlon to the'leaITes on the sidewalks <br /> making walking <4Lngerous for the ,old peo,ple. The City Attorney stated that he, <br /> would prepare an ordinance covering this subject. <br /> Councilinan Rei d appears in Counc il. <br /> 'I Forty-nine sidewalk Assessment Ordinances, having been read the first I <br /> time on November 12th, and registered notices for protest having been sent, and <br /> I! <br /> II now no protests being received, said ordinances were read the second time, and <br /> passed their third readings by ti tle by unanimous consen t under suspension of <br /> the rule, and were placed on their final passage. The ayes and nays were called, <br /> II all Councilmen voting aye, nay, none. The Ordinances were declared passed, and <br /> numbered from 7653 to 7701, both numbers inclusive. <br /> An Ordinance levying assessments for paving the alley between lOth Avenue <br /> and 11th Avenue from Van Buren Street to Tyler Street, in the City of Eugene, <br /> Oregon, was read the second time and due notices of hearing having been given, <br /> ob jec tions were called :for. A written objection o:f S. A. Dan:ford was read, and <br /> oral objections were made by Stillman A. Connor and Owen F. Herring. After due <br /> ~ <br />
