<br />The Police Committee submi tted its re.port of Officers Pollett and Farrow
<br />to the' Council for approval or rejection, and motion was ma;Cle, seconded, and
<br />carried to adopt thetr report.
<br />
<br />Eighteen affidavits were submitted in behalf of Chief Strait in defense of
<br />his position anti in charges preferred against him, and these affidavits were read
<br />befor e the Counei 1. Chai rman Monroe of the Poli ee Commi tt ee me ved tha t Chief
<br />Strait be cleared. of the charges made aga:Lnst him, and that he be sustained in his
<br />position as Chief of Police. The motion was seconded and the ayes and nays were
<br />called, Councilmen voting aye, Washburne, Large, and Monroe; Councilmen Simon,
<br />Lamb, Hendershott, and Zumwalt declined to vote. With the consent of the Council,
<br />the motion just submitted was withdrawn.

<br />Police Committee:

<br />To the Honorable Mayor and the Council of the Cit.S" of Eugene, Oregon.
<br />We, the Police Committee of this council, wish to bring to you for your
<br />
<br />consideration and approval a resolution which, after an extensive investigation
<br />
<br />into the operations and morale of the officers of the police department of this
<br />
<br />city and in view of the faet the investigation has not been pragmatic and in every
<br />
<br />conclusion we have tried to be fair and conscientious to all parties concerned and
<br />
<br />especially to the City of Eugene..
<br />
<br />We feel we are justified in our prayer for your approval of the following
<br />
<br />resolution.

<br />Therefol"e, be it Resolved, That the City Council of Eugene, Oregon, be
<br />placed on recbr<i in appro val of the recomfaenda tions of the police commi ttee in the

<br />RESOLVED: That the Common Council of the City of Eugene~ Oregon, deems

<br />between Willamette Street and Olive Street in Eugene, Lane County, Oregon, and

<br />that the City Engineer 'be and is directed to make a survey of the same, to mark

<br />the boundaries thereof, to aake a plat thereof, and make and file a written report
<br />
<br />of the portions of each lot, part of lot or tract of land to be appropriated there-
