<br />connection with the construction of the OrE!gon Electric Railway extension.

<br />The foll.owing resolution was submitted by the Central Labor Council:

<br />tt ' Whereas, the Oregon Electric Railway Company is to spend a million and ,a
<br />'quarter dollar's on constructi on work in the vicini ty of Eugene beginning April
<br />first, and -

<br />Whereas, the possibili ty of this construction has been heralded for many
<br />months, and a nation-wide publicity has been given this matter both through the
<br />press and radio, and
<br />

<br />Whereas, to avoid any influx of people into this territory such as has been
<br />the case in L~s Vagas, Nev., in connection with the Boulder Dam project, and
<br />
<br />Whereas, many of our citizens of Lane County are out of employment at this
<br />time, therefore
<br />
<br />Be It Resolved, that the Eugene Central Labor Council, urge the Oregon
<br />Electric Railway Company to do everything possible to aid in relieving the unem-
<br />ployment situation in this community, and
<br />
<br />Be It Further Resolved, that we urge the Oregon Electric Railway Company to
<br />put forth its greatest efforts to preven~ any surplus of unskilled labor being
<br />poured into this county,
<br />
<br />And Be It Still Further Resolved, that the Common C0uncil of the City of
<br />Eugene, the Chamber of CO!1lffierce and the County Gourt be asked to join wi th us in
<br />this resolution, and that a copy of this be furnished the pr~ss.

<br />Motion was made, seconded, and carried that the City Council endorse the fore-
<br />going resolution, and that the City Recorder convey to the Oregon Ele,ctric Rail-
<br />way Company the request of the City that the terms of the resolution be given all
<br />consideration in connection with employment for this proposed construction.
<br />
<br />At this time Councilman Reid 'appeared in Council.

<br />An agreement in triplicate for lease to the United States Department of
<br />Agriculture was submitted, and the following resolution was read and on motion of
<br />Councilman Hendershott, duly seconded and carried, adopted:

<br />
<br />Resolved that the Common Council of the City of Eugene hereby accepts and
<br />enters into the proposed agreement of the United States Department of Agriculture
<br />for the lease of the following described premises, viz:
<br />
<br />A strip of land, approximately 600 ft. by 2 ft. for extension of underground
<br />cable 50 feet east and thenae500 feet south, from door of Weat:p.er Bureau office
<br />in Hobi Airways Company Building to a ceiling light in fence corner near airport
<br />pump house; approximately 10 sq. ft. of ground space for instrume~t shelter locate
<br />about 60 feet north of Weather Bureau office; space for alidade about 3 ft. from
<br />office door; also power for light' aJ:l.d teletype operation.

<br />Ending June 30, 1940, subject to the right of City to terminate the lease upon
<br />sixty days noti.ce. n

<br />An Ordinance levying assessments for the grading and graveling ~t Indiana
<br />Avenue from the West line of Agate Street to the We~t line of Columbia Street in
<br />the Oity of Eugene, Lane County, Oregon, having been read the first time on
<br />February 24th, 1931, and registered notices for protests having been sent, is read
<br />the second time and objections called for and none heard, and on motion the ordin-
<br />ance was read the third time under suspension of the rule and was placed on its
<br />final passage. The ayes and nays were called, all present voting aye, nay, none,
<br />absent Zumwalt. The Ordinance was declared passed and numbered 8027.
