<br /> Chairman Lamb of the Street Committee recommended that the City improve ;';t~
<br /> West First Street by spreading about 40 yards of gravel, stating that the Eugene '---~.
<br /> Sand & Gravel Company had agreed to deliver and spread 10 yards on.this street
<br /> without charge to the city. On motion seconded and carried it was so ordered.
<br /> Mr. Lamb also reported that a Mrs. Carter of 1241 West 4th Street had step-
<br /> ped into a hole in a sidewalk in frpnt of the Hall Motor Bus Garage and suffered
<br /> a painful injufry, and that she expected the City of Eugene to take care of her
<br /> medical bill. The matter was referr~d to the Judiciary Committee and City Attorne.y
<br /> Mr. Lamb also reported eighteen street lamps in the clus,t,er llght system
<br /> between the Osburne Hotel and Willamette Street as not burning. The Recorder was
<br /> instructed t9 notify ~he superintendant of the Light Department.
<br /> .' The Fire and Water Committee, -by Chairman Hendershott, filed a letter from
<br /> the Board' of Appeals approving the sign ordinance, which had been referred to them
<br /> at the last meeting; and moved that the ordinance be passed. The moti on was
<br /> seconded and carried.
<br /> The matter of purchase of the Sanborn map was continued under reference to
<br /> the Sewer Committee.
<br /> ~he Recorder read a communication from the State Health Office~, Frederick
<br /> O. Stricker, advising the city that Mr. Green, their engineer, would probably be
<br /> t in Eugene on Tuesday to make an examination of the proposed garbage dump.
<br /> A letter to Mayor Wilder from Karl W. Onthank, expressing his appreciation
<br /> of the efficient response of the fire department on the case of residence fire to
<br /> hi's home, was read and placed on file. ,
<br /> A communication from Fred E. ~mith, relating to the nuisance of scattering
<br /> I pamphlets and handbills on residents property, was referred to the Judiciary
<br /> Committee and City Attorney.
<br /> Application of Mrs. L. E. Rogers for hotel permit at 623 Willamette Street,
<br /> approved by 'Chief Hall, was on motion granted.
<br /> Reports of the Health Officer, S. M. Kerron, Eugene Police Department,
<br /> Building Inspector, and Eugene Public Libtrar,y- for the month of November were read
<br /> and placed on file.

<br /> The Finance Committee, by Chairman Large, recommended that the first and
<br /> I final estimate fOI' $944.46 to Oscar Snow for paving Chula Vista Street fron
<br /> Indiana Avenue to 227.4 feet North of Indiana Avenue be allowed and paid. Motion
<br /> was made and seconded that the recommendat ion be adopted. The ayes and nays were
<br /> called, all councilmen voting aye, nay, none.
<br /> The offer of the National Machinery Co. to sell the city a 1930 fordson,
<br /> which was reported t,o be but slightly used, at a price of $527.00, on which the
<br /> city would be allowed '~or its old fordson ~150.00 and to include changing of old
<br /> city tires on to new tractor, was presented and referred to the street committee.
<br /> A deed, tendered by E'rank L. Chambers and wife to the City of Eugene of land
<br /> -, fcor the extension of Clarke Street immediately West of Riverview Park, was accepted
