<br /> ,~ j. Minutes of the adjou~ned meeting of the Co~non Council, held at the hour
<br /> ) ( of 7:30 o'clock P. M., November 28th, 1932. Council was called to order by Mayor
<br /> .~ Elisha Large with all Councilmen present.
<br /> Mrs. Warren D. Smith and Mrs. C. A. Horton urged before the Council a
<br /> restoration o:r the playground item in the proposed budget to the extent of $2,000
<br /> and were advised that the matter would have due consideration, but no action coul
<br /> be taken until the public budget meeting on December 7th.
<br /> The Judiciary Committee, by Chairman Edwards, reported adversely on the
<br /> sub je c t that the City should take out insurance on its city streets, parks, and
<br /> otherwise against claims for, personal injuries.
<br /> The Fire and Water Committee by Chairman Sam Bond recommended the install -
<br /> tion of a light in the alley between Charnelton and Lincoln Streets and 8th and .,
<br /> 9th Avenues, and on motion it was so ordered.
<br /> Reports of the l!.ugene Publi c Li brary Board and Poli ce Department for the
<br /> month of October were submitted and filed.

<br /> Request of Howard A. Hall for an allowance of $13.52 interest upon his
<br /> ~600.00 note, for the reason that a warrrolt payable to. him should have earned thi
<br /> amount of interest while it laid idle in the city's hands when it was his under-
<br /> standing that it should have been applied on the payment of the note, was present
<br /> ed to the COilllCil, and motion was made, seconded, and carried that he be allowed
<br /> I the credit of $13.52 upon the note, provided that the same is p~id in full and
<br /> that when so done the Mayor and Recorder be authorized and are instructed to exec
<br /> a satisfaction of the mortgage given to secure the payment of said note.
<br /> Request of the Rest-Haven Memorial Park for cooperation 'of the City in
<br /> planting a $creen of Douglas Firs along the West borders of the City dump grounds
<br /> was presented, and motion was made, seconded, and carried that the Rest-Haven
<br /> Memorial Park be authorized to furnish and plant at its own expense such trees as
<br /> it desires along said west border. I
<br /> A cOffiillUnication signed by Bert Mustoe and various others called attention
<br /> to two burned houses on University Street, one in the twenty-three hundred block
<br /> and one in the twenty-four hundred block, requesting that they be removed on
<br /> account of their condition, and the matter was referred to the Health Committee
<br /> for investigation.
<br /> An agreement of the Southern Pacific Company authorizing the City to
<br /> construct and maintain a highway upon a parcel of land within the railroad right-
<br /> of-way at 13th and Villard Streets intersection was returned to the city fully
<br /> executed by the Southern Pacific Company_with the request from the company that
<br /> the city have the agreement recorded. Motion was made, .seconded, and carried that
<br /> the instrument be recorded and that due cancellation on the lien docket be made
<br /> of the assessment of $212.32 therein provided for.
<br /> The application of Albert Anderson for the position of assistant to the
<br /> Engine eras Bui lding Inspe c tor was re ad and place d on fi Ie . .
<br /> The petition for the vacation of the East 22 feet of Ramey Street was
<br /> returned to the Council duly completed and ~ms referred to the Street Committee.
<br /> Reports of officers S. M. Calkins, Attorney, E. W. Zumwalt, Chairman of
<br /> the Health-Committee, Chief of Police Bergman, and Fire Chief Nusbaum, all alleg-
<br /> ing that a certain building situated at 290 Lincoln street is a dangerous nuisance,
<br /> were read, and a resolution providing for a meeting to be held at Council Chambers
<br /> on Monday, December 12th, to determine whether said building is da~erous and
<br /> I directing the Recorder to give notice of said meeting, and motion was made, sec-
<br /> onded, and carried to adopt the same. Following is the resolution:

<br /> Vfuereas, numberous complaints have been made to the Common Council by
<br /> people living in the vicinity of 290 Lincoln Street in the City of Eugene, and I
<br /> further, reports have been made by the Chief of Police, the Fire Chief, the
<br /> I
<br /> I Chairman of the Health Committee and the City Attorney, each and all denouncing
<br /> the building at said address as a dangerous building as defined in Ordinance No.
<br /> 8292, and recommending to the Common Co~ncil that the same be dismantled.
