<br />Minutes of the adjourned 'meeting of the Commor Council, held at the hour of
<br />7:30 o'clock P.M., January 9,1933. Council was called to order by Mayor Elisha
<br />Large with all Councilmen present except Reid and Scobert.
<br />
<br />Mr. C. F. Hyde, represent'ing Webster Kincaid owner of the 'tract at 13th and
<br />Olive streets, urged that the Seventh Day Adventists be allowed to proceed in the
<br />erection of their temporary tabernacle on, t}:le Kincaid premises. A protest from the
<br />property owners was presented. 1~. Hyde and ~~. Vend en stated that the tabernacle
<br />would be erected at the West en~ of the grounds instead of on the corner as former-
<br />ly planned, and that the lot was 160 ft., running East and West, so that the taber-
<br />nacle would be very much further removed from the protesting neighborhood. Motion
<br />~as made, seconded and carried that permission be granted to erect this building
<br />under the direction of the Building Inspector, upon filing of $500.00 bond to
<br />guarantee removal in one year.

<br />Chairman,Mr. Lamb, of the Street Committee stated that the request had been
<br />made for a foot bridge over the Amazon on 15th Avenue between Charnel ton and Olive
<br />Streets, and that the bridge would cost about $50.00. Upon his recommendation the
<br />matter was laid on the table.

<br />Fire and Water Committee Chairman, Mr. Bond, stated that 1~. Lee Loehr is
<br />leaving the employment of the City On January 31, and recommended that Lester
<br />Barker be employed by the City to fill this position, at a salary of $81.00, and
<br />same may be placed on the payroll of the City and warrant drawn when other salary
<br />warrants are made. The ayes and nays were called and all present voted aye, nay,
<br />none. Absent Reid and Scobert.
<br />
<br />Health Committee Chairman, Mr. Zumwalt, recommended that steps be taken to
<br />condemn an old structure at 250 Lincoln Street, situated on block 3, lot 5 of
<br />Shelton's First Addition. The City Attorney was tlirected to prepare the necessary
<br />papers.
<br />
<br />At this time Councilman Reid appeared in Council.
<br />
<br />The Judiciary Committee, by Chairman, Mr. Edwards, stated that it was the
<br />opinion of the committee that there was no liability on the part of the City to pay
<br />the damage claim of Dr. Donahue, and'"their recommendation that the bill be dis-
<br />allowed was, on motion, adopted.

<br />Chairman, j~r. Hendershott, of the Finance Committee moved that the contract
<br />be awarded to P. W. Brown in accordance with his bid. The motion was seconded and
<br />carried.
<br />
<br />Chairman, Mr. Reid, of the Sewer Committee moved that the bill of W. N. Wintle
<br />in the amount of $4.00 for clearing sewer be allowed. Motion was seconded, and on
<br />roll call was lost by a vote of four to three.
<br />
<br />Annual reports of the City Engineer and Building Inspector were read and place
<br />on file.

<br />A petition for the installation of street lights on Lawrence Street at 20th
<br />and 21st avenue intersections was referred to the Fire and Water Committee.
<br />
<br />Motion was made, seccnded and carried that the City accept the proposal of the
<br />Lane County Abstract Company to furnish record of t,ransfers of property wi thin the
<br />City of Eugene for the year 1933, at a price of $200.00.
<br />
<br />Communications from the Traffic Department of the Cities of Portland and
<br />San Franci sco Wl3re read regarding the method of parking on incline stre ets, and
<br />i were referred to the Police Committee.
<br />
<br />The Recorder reported that the Secretary of State had allowed the claim of
<br />$212.56 for rebate on gas. Also that claim of the City for the total of $3,114.48
<br />against the StaGe of Oregon for assessments of paving and side walks had been
<br />forwarded to thiS University 6omptroller, Mr. Lindstrom, and is now under their
<br />cons idera ti on.

<br />The Recorder called attention to two forclosure proceedings in which summons
<br />had been served upon the City as a Lien holder against these properties, and the
<br />City Attorney advised that the City's lien would be in no wise affected 'by the
<br />procee<lures.
