<br /> The following resolution was presented by Chairman Hendershott of the Finance
<br /> Committee and moved its ado:pt.ton by the Council. On motion seconded and carl'ied,
<br /> the resolution wa~ adopted as follows:
<br /> RESOLUTION
<br /> .~ BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Eugene that the City
<br /> Treasurer be and he is hereby directed and authorized to invest funds of
<br /> the general bond sinking fund in any warrants issued for the paylf,lent of
<br /> general bond interest, and to hold the same until such time as they are
<br /> redeemed by tax money received and ap:plied thereto.
<br /> ---
<br /> The Finance Committee presented an old bill for water for the public fountain
<br /> at 8th and Oak Streets" and the opinion,was expressed that the Oounty Court.was
<br /> considering arrangements to take care of this account, and for the metering of
<br /> water to this fountain. No action was taken on this bill.
<br /> On recommendation of the Police Committee, applications of the Eugene Fruit
<br /> I Grower's'Association for a Wholesale Beverage License, the Wholesale Beverage
<br /> Distributing Company for Wholesale and Package licenses, and of H. N. Millard and
<br /> Duckworth and Bettis for the transfer of the Cosmo Beer license from the former to
<br /> the latter, were on motion ordered' granted.
<br /> Reports of the City Health Officer, Police Department, City Engineer, Library,
<br /> and Fire Department were placed on file.
<br /> The Recorder adv isad the C'ounc il of the service of Summons upon the City in
<br /> the Foreclosure Suit of Rose B. Shelley, vs. Edith Halderson Whipps, R. M. Vfuipps,
<br /> her huspand, and the Ci ty.
<br /> An Ordinance to be known as the Electrical Code for the City of Eugene, O~egon;
<br /> providing for licenses; definhng approved electrical materials and appliances,
<br /> prohibiting the sale 01.' use of unapproved appliances and materials, providing a
<br /> penalty fqr.violation hereof, repealing Ordinance No. ____ and all ordinances or
<br /> pa~ts of ordinances in conflict herewith, was read the first time and laid over.
<br /> . An Ordinance levying assessments for the opening of 17th Avenue West from
<br /> Lawrence Street to the East line of Hollenbeck's Addition to Eugene, Lane County,
<br /> Oregon, was read the first time, and objections to the :passage were called for and
<br /> none heard, whereupon the ordinance passed its second and third readings by title
<br /> under suspension of the rule by unanimous consent of the Council, and was placed
<br /> upon its final passage. The ayes and nays were called, Councilmen voting aye 6,
<br /> nay none; absent Lamb, who was excused from the Council, and Councilman Seabert.
<br /> The Ordinance was declared passed and numbered 8339.
<br /> An Ordinance le vying asse ssment s for the constructi on of a sewer between
<br /> Lawrence Street and Washington Street from 14th Avenue to 15th Avenue, in the City
<br /> of Eugene, Lane County, Oregon, was read the first time, and objections to the
<br /> passage were called for and none heard, whereupon the ordinance passed its second
<br /> and .tb,ird readings by title under suspension of the .rule by unanimous consent of
<br /> the Council, and was placed upon its final passage. The ayes and nays were called,
<br /> Councilmen voting aye 6, nay none, absent Lamb and Scobert. The Ordinance was
<br /> I declared passed and numbered 8340.
<br /> An Ordinance declaring the intention of the Common Council of the City of
<br /> Eugene to make a reassessment of the cost of paving Seventeenth Avenue from
<br /> Willamette Street to Jefferson Street, in the Ci ty of Eugene, as the same abuts the
<br /> properties hereinafter described, and fixing a time and place for holding a meeting
<br /> of the Common Council at which all protests against such reassessment shall be
<br /> heard, and directing the giving of notices, was read the first time and passed its
<br /> second and third readings under suspension of the rule by unanimous consent of the
<br /> Council, and was placed upon its final passage. The ayes and nays were called,
<br /> Councilmen voting aye 6, nay none, absent Lamb and Scobert. The Ordinance was
<br /> _. declared passed and numbered 8341. '
