<br /> An Ordinance licensing, taxing and regulating theaters, vaudevilles, moving
<br /> pic ture shows and 0 ther shows, ente rtainment sand exhibi ti ons wi thin the Ci ty of
<br /> ~Ugene, and repealing all ordinances in conflict herewith, was on motion amended
<br /> by the insertion in Section 5 of the words !tother than municipally controlled
<br /> showsl1 afte~ the word amusement in line 4 of said section, and the ordinance as
<br /> . amended was read the third time and placed upon its passage. COllilcilmen voting
<br /> aye, Lamb, Hendershot t and Edwal"ds. Nay, Reid, Simon, Zumwalt, and Bond. Council
<br /> man Bond thel~eupon moved a reconsideration of the ord inanc e , and the motion was
<br /> seconded and carried; and the ordinance being now upon reconsideration, motion was
<br /> made, seconded and carried that consideration of the ordinance be continued until
<br /> next meeting of the Council.
<br /> An Ordinance to prevent disturbances and noi ses interfeI'ing wi th the hours
<br /> of re st between 10:00 o'clock P.M. of one day, and 6:00 o'clock A. M. of the
<br /> following day, inthe City of Eugene; declaring an emergency, prescribing a penalty
<br /> and ~epealing Ordinance No. 8362, was read the first time and passed its second
<br /> and third readings by title under suspension of the rule by unanimous consent of
<br /> the Council, and was placed upon its final passage. The ayes and nays we~e called,
<br /> Councilmen voting aye 7, nay none, absent Harris. The U~dinance was declared
<br /> passed and numbered 8365.

<br /> An Ordinance amending Section 3 of O~dinance No. 8033 of the City of Eugene
<br /> entitled !tAn O~dinance providing for the disposal of garbage, rubb i sh , trash and
<br /> refuse in the City of Eugene and p~oviding ~egulations as to, the manner of such
<br /> di sposal. rl, passed and approved on the 30th day of March 1931, by provi ding a
<br /> license fee of $25.00 per truck, was read the first time and motion was made,
<br /> seconded and carried that it be laid on the table ..
<br /> Mayor Large explained the situation of the employment of Miss Hazel Fields
<br /> as Stenographer in the U. S. Employment Service, and that an agreement had been
<br /> made between the Mayor and County Judge that she should be paid $140.00, cove~ing
<br /> from August 8th, 1833 to October 15th, 1933, of which the City's share would be
<br /> $66.22, and that this amount could either be taken care of out of the money to be
<br /> '.: saved by the reduction in the allowailce to Mr. Armitage for the remainder of this
<br /> year and 1934, or could be pai d ou t~igh t ; and that all of the arrangements were
<br /> made subject to the Council's approval. Whereupon motion was made and seconded
<br /> that the Hecordel~ dl"aw a warrant on the General Fund in favo~ of Miss Hazel Fields
<br /> for $66.22. The ayes and nays were called, Councilmen voting aye 7, nay none,
<br /> absent Har~is.
<br /> A resolution from the Central Lutheran Church Ladies Auxiliary protesting the
<br /> disptay of indecent and vuleal~ pictures on motion picture bill boards was read.
<br /> The Council expressed a unanimous opinion that the position of the Church people
<br /> was justified, but as this subject has been before the Council many times in the
<br /> pase, they were of the opinion that there was little that could be done, and
<br /> instructed the Recorder to advise the Organization to that effect.
<br /> 1~yor Large presented a letter from C. W. Reynolds, Director of Transient
<br /> Activities, su€~gesting that the City consider means for providing ade<luate and
<br /> I suitable housing for transients, in anticipation of his contemplated visit to
<br /> Eugene in the near future for the purpose of establishing at this point a relief
<br /> depot for care of transient relief.
<br /> On motion the Council adjourned to meet November 27th, 1933, at 7:30 o'clock
<br /> P.M.
