<br />,.:~, lIinutes of the adjourned meeting of the Cornmon Council held at the hour of
<br />'.,.r-:'" 7:30 o!clock p.U., Tuesday, December 26, 1933. Council was called to order by
<br />Mayor Large with all Councilmen present.

<br />lJI'. J. \"1. LIcArthur, Su]?erintendant of the ;7ater & Lif;ht Department, stated
<br />tha t t he Board had concurred in the plan of remode ling the Water and Light
<br />, quarters, and the installation of electric heating for the building, but clesired
<br />:1 cex'tain mat te.I's cleared in ~vri ting, including a new lease to meet the changing
<br />conditions as to occupancy, including the abandonment of the upper room now used
<br />I by the Light and VJater De:p'artment, and changing of area and l'emodeling of the
<br />first floor, and also that they would like an agreement for a three year trial of
<br />the heating plan. Councilman Held moved that the Ci ty enter int 0 a new lease
<br />along tpe lines suggested and agree to the three year trial of the heating plan,
<br />and that the City Attorney embody in the lease and agreement the conditions
<br />unde~stood between the Council and \Iater .3oard. 1Ihe motion vms seconded and '.

<br />Dr. Romig, City Health Officer, reported an inspection of the City jail
<br />sta t in[:; tha t tjhe jai 1 VIas not entirely sani tary on acc ount of t oi le t faci li tie s ,
<br />lack of showeJ::'s, and insufficient windovv space for li~ght and ventilation. He
<br />also stated ,that there appeared to be no State reBulations on the subject. Dr.
<br />Simon l"emarked that after five years of effort to seCU1"e a new jailor better
<br />jail conditions the Police Gommittee would welcome sutgestions looking to the
<br />improvement of this situation.

<br />Councilman Edwards filed a protest containing 59 signatures opposing the
<br />e;ranting of a permit for a tourist camp VIi thin one and one-half miles of the
<br />University of OreGon. rr1he sUGgestion that 1.:1'. Jones was possibly conducting a
<br />touri s t carn.p' vvi thin the p roh1 bi ted area was referred to Chi ef De rgman for
<br />I investigation.

<br />license be revoked, and tna'u the llcensee and landlord ot the bUlldlne; be
<br />notified of the action of the COf.tl111ittee and Council. .L\. motion Has made, seconded
<br />and carl"ied to adopt the l'eport and l"ecoI11mendation of the Committee.

<br />Statement of bills for the ~ugene Public Library for the month of December,
<br />1933, was plaeed on file.

<br />J2500.00 Series A-C Improvement 30nds at 5~J due October 15th 1936 at a price of
<br />I 92.00; and from Dlythe &: Co., ~6,000.00 Series A-C 1u:~ene Improvement 30nds due
<br />I in 1936 at 92.00; and also a ~500.00 Series A-C 1936 Improvement 3011d from Ferris

<br />Intersection Fund for the retirement of the City! s installment of its bonded
