<br /> 7:30 o'clock-P.M., Nbvember' 20; 1934.- Council was called to order by Mayor Large,

<br /> A peti tion from merchants of .l:!,ugene requesting the Counciltoprohi bi t the
<br /> parking of religious cars for advertising purposes on the business streets during
<br /> the holiday season particularly was present!;3d by Mr. Inman, and referredt 0 the
<br /> -Police and JUd~ciary CommitteeE and City Attorney. <
<br /> Professor DeCou addressed the Council on the progress and pro~pects of Park
<br /> improvements, and read a letter from the County Court and Water Board before the
<br /> . Council, and a Resolution was presented suggesting that appropriation be made by
<br /> the Council of not to exceed twenty-four inches per year of water for summer
<br /> irregation of the Park areas i~nediately South of 8th Street between Willamette
<br /> and Pearl Streets. On suggestion of Councilman Bond the words "twenty-four incheslt
<br /> were changed to read "$50.00", after which Councilman Reid moved that the matter
<br /> be referred to theopark and Fire and Water Committees to take up with the Water
<br /> Board and report back at the next Cou~cil meeting. The motion was aeconded and
<br /> carried.
<br /> .'Councilman Harris, of the Park Board, recommended that the Park and Fire and
<br /> Water Committees confer with the Water Board with reference to providing water for
<br /> use on the South slope of Skinner's Butte, and on motion seconded and carried it
<br /> was so ordered. The Committees to report back at t.he next Council meeting.
<br /> The Finance Committee submitted the following recommendation:
<br /> "Your Finance Commi ttee respec tfully rec ommends that the Counci 1 inst rue t
<br /> the City Treasurer to retire the General Bonds now held by the General Bond
<br /> I Sinking Fund, and aggregating-the sum of $132,600.00, as ShOWiJ.::'lby the statement
<br /> attached to this recommendation.
<br /> This will effect a very considera'ble reduction in the interest obligation
<br /> of the City, and will also reduce General Bond debt to $961,740.00, which is the
<br /> mos t favorable sta tement of General BOnd debt since 1925.
<br /> We further recommend that the Treasurer be instructed to purchase from the
<br /> General Bond Sinking Fund, with the funds available in his hands for the payment
<br /> of the City's bonded debt for Intersections, the Series A-B and Series A-C
<br /> Improvement Bonds now in said General Bond Sinking Fund, and that said Bonds be
<br /> retired and the lien obligations of the City, to the equivalent amount, be satis-
<br /> fied on the Lien Docket.
