<br />The Fire and Water Committee by Chairman Bond recommended the installation
<br />of a light at 20th and Olive Streets, to replace an old style light that is now
<br />there~ Upon motion seconded and carried this recommendation was approved by the
<br />Council.

<br />Councilman Bond then read a note f~om Professor DeCou concerning the Butte
<br />Park. This was held for further consideration.

<br />, The Health Committee, by Chairman Zumwalt, asked for further time 'with
<br />which to prepare a report on the licensing of trucks in the city.
<br />
<br />-Police Committee, by Chairman Simon, recommended the granting of a taxicab
<br />service license to Delmer Dietzman, On motion duly seconded anq carried this
<br />recommendation was accepted.
<br />
<br />Chairman Simon also reported that they are working through the S.E.R.A.
<br />in the hopes of getting sufficient help for providing jail quarters, and that it
<br />will be necessary to continue as they have been in caring for the prisonens.
<br />
<br />Chairman Simon recommended the approval of the beer application of Ray
<br />Sherwin, and on motion duly seconded and carried his reconwendation was a~cepted.
<br />
<br />Mr. Collins, Audmtor of the Eugene Water Board, presented a condition
<br />concerning the State Industrial Accident Compensation of the Water Board and City
<br />combined. After considerable discussion by members of the Council with Mr. Collins
<br />Mr. Bond suggested that the Eugene Water Board should assume the increased rate
<br />that the City would be held to, and upon motion seconded and carried the problem
<br />was referred to the Judfu~iary Committee and City Attorney with the power to act.

<br />City Attorney Calkins read House Bill No. 262 and interpreted the same to
<br />the Council. It was moved, seconded and carried that the City Council should go on
<br />record as opposing this bill, and the Recorder instructed to write to the members
<br />of the Lane County delegation and also to Mr. Wm. M. Briggs, Manager of the League
<br />of Oregon Cities.

<br />Reports of the Police Department, Fire Department, Milk Inspector, City
<br />Engineer, and Public Library for the month of January, 1935 were read and filed.
<br />The annual report of the Police Department was read and filed. T

<br />At this time sealed bids for sand and gravel from the following companies
<br />were opened and read: Eugene Sand and Gravel, Emery & Ransom, and Inter-City
<br />Sand and Gravel, and were referred to the Street Committee. '~

<br />The M. S. Barker request was left in the hands of the Sewer Con~ittee for
<br />another two weeks.
<br />
<br />The answer to our letter concerning the Firemen's Civil Service Act was
<br />ordered filed.
<br />
<br />A petition was presented to the Council asking that East 11th be made a
<br />through Street. The petition was ordered filed with the West 11th Stop Street
<br />petition.

<br />An Ordinance amending Section 3 of Ordinance No. 7875 of the City of
<br />Eugene, entitled "An Ordinance regulating the production, sale and distribution of
<br />Milk and milk products in the city of Eugene, Oregon providing a penalty for the
<br />violation thereof, repealing all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict
<br />herewith.", passed by the Common Council and llPproved by the Mayor on August 25,
<br />1930, and declaring an emergency, was read the first tinw and passed its second
<br />and third readings by title under suspension of the rule by the unanimous consent
<br />of the Council, and was placed upon its final passage. The ayes and nays were
<br />called, Councilmen voting aye 8, nay none, absent none. The Ordinance was declared
<br />passed and numbered 8404.

<br />An Ordinance amending Ordinance No. 7710 of the City of Eugene entitled
<br />"An Ordinance concerning the slaughtering of animals and the preparation of the
<br />meat thereof which is intended for consumption, in the City of Eugene, providing
<br />a penalty for the vifulation thereof, repealing all ordinances and parts of
<br />ordinances in conflict therewith and declaring an emergency.f1, passed by the
<br />Common Council and approved by the Mayor December 9, 1929, by adding to the
<br />provisions for fees in Section 6 of said ordinance, was read the first time and
<br />passed its second and third readings by title under suspension of the rule by the
<br />unanimous consent of the Council, and was placed upon its final passage. The ayes
<br />and nays were called, Councilmen voting aye 8, nay none, absent none. The
<br />Ordinance was declared passed and numbered 8305.
