<br />Chairman Simon then presented the application of Glen Simon for.' a liquor
<br />license at the old Ackerman location, 2lg3 Franklin Blvd. Upon motion, seconded
<br />and carried it was turned over to the Police Committee with power to act. (This
<br />application was later approved)

<br />Chairman Simon then presented two, bills of $g.OO each to E. R. Nevers and
<br />M. J. Witbeck, for special police duty at McArthur Court during the Lane County
<br />Basket Ball Tournament, and recommended that they be allowed.. The motion was
<br />seconded and the ayes and nays called. Councilmen voting aye g, nay none, absent
<br />none. At this time Councilman Harris very strenuously objected to the ,payment for
<br />special police service for such work as that concerning the Lane County Basket Ball
<br />Tournament, that it is a waste, and that it was the duty of Lane County to provide
<br />that service. Dr. Simon then took the floor and spoke in behalf of such a practice,
<br />and very emphatically approved such courtesies as we are able to show the people of
<br />the surrounding territory of Eugene. Councilman Harris again objected on the basis
<br />that it was a foolish expending of money. Councilman Hendershott favored Dr. Simon
<br />'s statements.

<br />An Ordinance amending Section 20 of Ordinance No. g3lt7, entitled "An Ordinance
<br />to be known as the Electrical Code for the City of Eugene, Oregon; providing for
<br />licenses; defining approved electrical materials and appliances, prohibitalng the
<br />sale or use of unapproved appliances and materials, providing a penalty for
<br />violation hereof, repealing Ordinance No. g293 and all ordinances or parts of
<br />ordinances in conflict herewith.", passed by the Common Council July 2lt, 1933, and
<br />approved by the Mayor July 25, 1933, as amended by Ordinance No. g3g9, by adding
<br />two free-holders to the personnel of the electrical board, was read the first time
<br />and passed its second and third readings by title under suspension of the rule by
<br />the unanimous consent of the Council and was placed upon its final passage. The
<br />ayes and nays were called, Councilmen voting aye g, any none, absent none. The
<br />Ordinance was declared passed and numbered g4Qg.

<br />An Ordinance amending Ordinance No. 561 of the City of Eugene, entitled "An
<br />Ordinance to regulate and impress a license upon auctioneers within the City of
<br />Eugene, and to impose a penalty for violation thereof; and to repeal Ordinance No.
<br />lt67 entitled "An Ordinance to impose a license upon auctioneers, to impose a
<br />penalty for violation thereof and to repeal Section 21 of Ordinance No. 99", and
<br />to repeal Section 21 of said Ordinance No. 9911, passed by the Common Council. and
<br />approved by the Mayor on June 12, 1905, by reducing the license of auctioneers of
<br />the first class to $60.00 per annum, payable in advance each four months, was read
<br />the first time and passed its second and third readings by title under suspension
<br />of the rule by the unanimous consent of the Council, and was placed upon its final
<br />passage. The ayes and nays were called, Councilmen voting aye, g, nay none, absent
<br />none. The Ordinance was declared passed and numbered glt09.

<br />In accordance with Ordinance No. glt04 reducing the milk license for distribut@
<br />ors, it is necessary to refund $10.00 each to Virgil Liles and A. McMaster, the
<br />only two paying their annual license before the Ordinance wentointo effect. Motion
<br />was made and seconded to refund the above amount and the ayes and nays were ca~led.

<br />Upon motion of Councilman Lamb, duly seconded and carried the Mayor, Engineer,
<br />and City Attorney were requested to attend the next meeting of the State Highway
<br />Commission to present the claim of the City for the re-surfacing of West 6th
<br />Avenue and Broadway from Willamette to High Street.
<br />
<br />The monthly report of generaili expense for the City for the periOd ending
<br />January 31, 1935 was ordered filed.
<br />
<br />A communication was read from C. S. D1l10n, 60mmander of the Commanders
<br />Council of Lane County, concerning a water system necessary for the preservation
<br />of the trees planted in the Butte Park. This matter was referred to the Park and
<br />Fire & Water Committee for investigation.
<br />
<br />Upon motion of Councilman Lamb, duly seconded and carried, contracts were
<br />ordered drawn between the Eugene Sand and Gravel Company and the City of Eugene,
<br />and Emeru & Ransom Agency and the City, which 1s to state any or all of the City's
<br />requirements for 1935. .
<br />
<br />The Recorder read a letter from the City Treasurer concerning the Prince
<br />property, and the same was referred to the Judiciary Committee and City Attorney.
