<br />Councilman Zumwalt recommended the licensing of about 27 bread and ice
<br />cream trucks at $3.00 each per year, or fraction thereof, and it was moved and
<br />seconded to adopt this recommendation, and the City Attorney asked to prepare an
<br />ordinance on the same. Councilman Reid objected to this very much, feeling that
<br />there ought to be a universal. truck license if there were going to be any at all.
<br />The ayes and nays were called, Councilmen voting aye Hendershott, Simon, Zumwalt,
<br />Bond, Harris, and Carlson. Nay Lamb and Reid.

<br />The Police Committee, by Chairman Simon, recomnended that beer applicat-
<br />ions of W. A. Hummel and J. C. Jamison be not granted. Motion was made, seconded
<br />and carried to adopt this recomnendation. All package wine applications and the
<br />beer application of Hersch Taylor were held up.
<br />
<br />A letter from the Private Flyers Association of Oregon, regarding the
<br />hugene Airport, was presented to the Council, and was referred to the Finance
<br />Committee. The Recorder was instructed to find out about cutting down a group of
<br />trees at the South end of the field, on account of the flying hazard.

<br />The City Attorney reported adversely on the proposed amendment of the
<br />Zoning Ordinance presented by Professor Kelly, and his report, on motion was
<br />I adopted by the Council. Mr. Barrett addressed the Council. objecting very stren-
<br />II uously to the adop ti on of the ordi nance, stating that it was an imposi tion on the
<br />taxpayers of the City. Mrs. Chapman addressed the Council, oPPosing the proposed
<br />I ordinance. The Ordinance to create or divide the City into Districts within some
<br />of which it shall be lawful, and within others of which it shall be unlawful to
<br />I erect, construct, alter or maintain certain buildings, or to carryon certain
<br />li'l trades or callings, or within which the height and bulk of future buildings shall
<br />be limited, and providing for setback lines, and providing for a penalty for the
<br />'II violation thereof, was read the third time and placed upon its final passage.
<br />The ayes and nays were called, Councilmen voting aye 7, Nay Reid, absent none.

<br />Reports for the month of March from the Eugene Public Library, Pollce
<br />Department, Fire Department, and City ~gineer, were ordered filed.
<br />
<br />A bill from the Eugene Public Library in the amount of $164.69 was present-
<br />ed, and motion made and seconded that it be allowed and the Recorder instructed to
<br />draw a warrant for same. The ayes and nays were called, Councilmen voting aye 8,
<br />nay none, absent none.
<br />
<br />A letter from the Associated Oil Company was presented to the Council,
<br />asking for permission to widen the curb cut and extend their driveway at their
<br />Station on East Broadway and High Streets. This matter was referred to Mr. Lamb
<br />and Mr. Clubb, with power to cat.
<br />
<br />A petition was presented by Donald F. Mc~onald concerning the licensing
<br />of pin and ball, and pin and marble machines, and a proposed ordinance was read
<br />the first time, and laid over for two weeks.

<br />Application by'Wood Hindman to conduct a hotel at 60 East 7th Ave. which
<br />had been okeyed by C. F. Bergman, Chief of Police, was on motion granted.

<br />The Mayor ap pointed R. H. Parsons, and Louis Ualdorf ?os freeholders on the
<br />~lectrical Board in accordance with Ordinance 8408; and appointed P. J. Hanns
<br />and Raymo,:.ld Torrey as freeholders on the Plumbing Board, in acc ordance wi th
<br />Ordinance 8406.
