<br />The proposed contract of lease between the City of Eugene and Yale Smith,
<br />President of the Private Flyers Association, concerning the use of the administra-
<br />tion building at the Airport, was read, and held over for further consideration.
<br />
<br />Reports for the month of April from the Police Dept., Fire Dept., Eugene
<br />public Library, and Milk Inspector were ordered filed.
<br />
<br />The renewal bond in the amount of $500.00 for H. S. Elliott, as garbage
<br />hauler, was ordered accepted and filed.

<br />A letter from the Eugene Ministerial Union opposing the granting of a
<br />Sunday Oircus license was read and ordered filed, /in view of the fact that
<br />special permission had already been granted on May 1, 1935 for the Al G. Barnes
<br />Circus to show on Sunday May 19, 1935, by the following vote: Aye, Hendershott,
<br />Bond, Harris and Carlson. Nay, Lamb, Reid, Simon and Zumwalt. The vote be:tlmg
<br />a tie, the Mayor was called upon to vote, and he voted aye.

<br />A letter was read from the Lane Oounty Fraternal Oommittee inviting all
<br />members of the Council to their Oonvention being held on Wednesday May 15th.
<br />Councilman Lamb and Simon spoke very favorably of this Oonvention.
<br />
<br />A letter from Hawkins & Roberts, Inc. in which they asked for a rebate of
<br />interest in the amount of $6.02 on an assessment for Grading and Graveling the
<br />Alley for the East 100 feet of Lot 1, Block 27, Gross Addition, for the reason
<br />that they were not informed of this assessment, was read and upon motion duly
<br />seconded and carried was ordered tabled.

<br />A letter from the University of Oregon, asking for permission to close 13th
<br />Ave. from Kincaid to University Street during the nights of May 29, 30, 31 and
<br />June 1, 2, and 3, for the purpose of an outdoor play to be given by the drama
<br />department, was read and upon motion duly seconded and carried, permission was
<br />granted.

<br />Applications to rebond delinquent assessments were presented, and on motion
<br />duly seconded and carried were accepted as follows:

<br />An application from John N. Freeman to conduct a rooming house at 858 Pearl
<br />Street, okayed by the Ohief of Police, was on motion granted.
<br />
<br />An application from Fred Adler for a woodsawing lot at the corner of
<br />Broadway and Taylor Sts., upon adverse report of the Chief of Police, was not
<br />granted.

<br />An Ordinanc~ authorizing and directing the City Recorder of the City ~
<br />Eugene, to re-advertise for bids for the sale of Refunding Assessment Bonds e, and
<br />Refunding Assessment Bonds D, was read the first time and passed it s second and
<br />third readings by title under suspension of the rule by the unanimqus consent of
<br />the Council, and was placed upon its final passage. The ayes and nays were called,
<br />Councilmen voting aye 8, nay none, absent none. The Ordinance was declared passed
<br />and numbered 8421.

<br />The City Attorney brought up the subject of re-advertising for bids carry-
<br />ing the approved opinion of Teal, Winfree, McCulloch, Shuler, and Kelley-,of
<br />Portland, Oregon. Motion was made and seconded to re-adv?rtise in this manner,
<br />and the ayes and nays were called, Councilmen voting aye, Lamb, Hendershott,
<br />Simon, Zumwalt & Harris. Nay, Reid, Bond and Carlson.

<br />An Ordinance permitting the cutting of curbs at 288 East Broadway and 720
<br />Oak Street in excess of the restrictions of Ordinance No. 7753, was read the first
<br />time and passed its second and third readings by title under suspension of the
<br />rule, by the unanimous consent of the Council and was placed upon its final
<br />passage. The ayes and nays were called, Councilmen voting aye 8, nay none, absent
<br />none. The Ordinance was declared passed and numbered 8422.

<br />Councilman Lamb called attention to the fact that the W~ers~Bushong Lumber
<br />Company has High Street in front of their mill covered with sawdust all of the
<br />time, and pointed out that some action should be taken to correct this. The
<br />matter was referred to Councilman Simon.
<br />
<br />On motion the Council adjourned to meet on Wednesday, May 29th, at 7:30
<br />o'clock P. M.
