<br /> The City Recorder, upon motion, seconded and carried, was requested to call W
<br /> for bids for 500 feet of 2~ inch, Underwriter's Guarantee Fire Hose. Bids to be .-~ r

<br /> opened at the adjourned meeting of the Council on August 29th.
<br /> Councilman Bond reported that Mrs. Cook did ,not wish to settle Ber claim for
<br /> injuries receiv~d from a fall on a sidewalk for $52.50, but would accept $100.00
<br /> as full and final settlement. After considerable discussion by the Council it was
<br /> determined that Mrs. Cook settle for the amount originally approved or nothing at
<br /> all.
<br /> the Recorder presen~ed the application of Mr. G. L. Todd, 939 East 20th
<br /> Avenue, for a claim in the amount of $6.00 for repairing glasses which were damaged
<br /> in a fall sustained on the sidewalk at 1945 KincaId Street. Councilman Harris,
<br /> moved that this claim be denied, and Councilman Reid seconded the motion. After
<br /> .' considerable discussion, a vote was called for by the Mayor and the ayes and nays
<br /> were called, Councilmen voting aye, Harris, Nay 6, absent Zumwalt. The motion was
<br /> declared lost. Councilman Simon then moved to pay the claim, and the motion was
<br /> seconded by Councilman Bond. The ayes and nays were called, Councilmen voting aye
<br /> 6, nay Harris" absent Zumwalt.
<br /> Chairman Carlson of the Printing and Park Committee reported a request from
<br /> tpe Park Board for the building of a new and larger bear cage in Skinner's Butte
<br /> Park~ and he requested that this be left with him for time to contact the Park
<br /> Board and find out exactly what they want.
<br /> Councilman Carlson put the question to the Council that the Mayor name Mr.
<br /> Lock, Assistant Superintendant of the Transient Camp, to be supervisor of all
<br /> transient help that the City is using, and after discussion this was granted.
<br /> Upon motion, seconded and carried, Councilman Carlson was named ~s the City's
<br /> representative to have control of this group.
<br /> The City Recorder presented the proposition from the Sigman-Fell Insurance
<br /> I Agency giving rates covering Public Liability and Property Damage on the 'Police,
<br /> cars. The Recorder pointed out that this Agency will furnish exactly the same
<br /> insurance as ~e have been receiving,for $21.15, whereas we have been paying $79.60.
<br /> Upon motion, seconded and carried the Council ordered the Policy for the Plymouth
<br /> Coach to be placed with this company.
<br /> Councilman Hendershott asked thl;it a COIonli ttee be appointed to investigate the
<br /> insurance situation. The Mayor appoint,ed the Finance Committee. '.
<br /> A report of the Zoning Board of Appeals recommended that the City Council
<br /> request the Planning Commission to hold a meeting at onee to consider the re~ .
<br /> classification of 13th Avenue East, and recommended to the Council that a special
<br /> permit be granted to Ira Sawyer to erect a frame dwelling structure ,on the'top of
<br /> his one story concrete store building, located at 782 West 4th. On motion duly
<br /> seconded and carried the report was adopted by the Council.
<br /> Reports for the month of July from the Police Department, Fire Department,
<br /> City Engineer, Milk Inspector, and Public Library were -read and ordered filed.
<br /> e: Report from the State Relief Committee on the man hours furnished the City
<br /> from the Eugene Transient Bureau for the week of July 22, 1935, was read and'ordere

<br /> An Ordinance directing the Mayor and City Recorder to execute a deed,'- of"'"
<br /> correction on behalf of the city for certain properties acquired by the Water
<br /> Board was read the first time and pass~d its second and third readings by title
<br /> under suspension of the rule by the unanimous consent of the Council and was
<br /> placed upon its final passage. The ayes and nays were called, Councilmen voting
<br /> aye 7, nay none, absent Zumwalt. The Ordinance was declared passed and numbered
<br /> a433.
<br /> An Ordinance author1zing and directing the issuance and sale of Refunding
<br /> Bonds to be designated "REFUNDING IMPROVEMENT BONDS GO, for the purpose of redeem-
<br /> I lng, paying and retiring certain bonds issued pursuant to applications to pay
<br /> assessments in installments, which bonds are redeemable at the option of the City
<br /> of Eugene, and are designated Series A. G., bearing interest at 5~ per cent, in
<br /> the principal sum of $113,013.70" and ma'tur1:ngc;March 15, 1938; and directing that
<br /> said bonds be called for redemption, and declaring an emergency was read the first
<br /> time and passed its second and third readings by title under suspension of the rule
<br /> by the unanimous consent of the Council, and was placed upon its final passage.
<br /> The ayes and nays were called, Councilmen voting aye 7, nay none, absent Zumwalt.
<br /> The Ordinance was declared passed and numbered 8434.
<br /> Upon motion duly seconded and carried the Council authorized the City
<br /> Treasurer to call Series "A-G" Improvement Bonds as of September 15, 1935.
