<br /> The Police Committee, by Chairman Simon, reported that he had been asked for
<br /> permission to put up a sign in front of the U. S. Recruiting Office, and this
<br /> , was, on motion, denied.
<br /> Councilman Simon opened discussion on the condition of the Drive-In-Market on
<br /> Willamette Street, and after considerable discussion it was decided that Mr. Horn
<br /> . of that Market should appear before the Counc~l at the next meeting and explaint
<br /> the situation.
<br /> Councilman Bond at the request of Councilman Lamb presented the proposition
<br /> for the city barn. The daniels property at the North end of Olive Street was
<br /> presented as follows:

<br /> I Bal. over, a period of 4 yrs. $4.000.00

<br /> After considerable discussion among the Council; some holding that they probably
<br /> should rent space until they could determine definitely whether or not the City
<br /> could receive Federal aid in a project of this nature; and others holding that
<br /> this is a very good investment and should be taken advantage of irnnediately. Mr.
<br /> H. W. Reynolds addressed the Council expressing the opindJon that the City probably
<br /> owns enough property now, and it would be a tremendous aid to labor to labor and
<br /> local merchants if the city would build its own place. Councilman Reid moved that
<br /> the Council accept the first proposal of $10,000.00. T~e motion was seconded by
<br /> Councilman Harris, and the ayes and nays were called, Councilmen voting aye, Lamb,
<br /> Hendershott, Reid, and Harris. Nay, Simon, Bond and Carlson. Absent Zumwalt. The
<br /> Mayor returned the problem of financing it to the Street Committee.
<br /> Councilman Bond reported that they had an offer of $10.00 for an old bell that
<br /> was no longer in use, and $500.00 for an old Buick Fire truck. Motion was made and
<br /> seconded tffit these be sold for the above amounts, and the ayes and nays were
<br /> e' called. Councilmen voting aye 7, nay none, absent Zumwalt. The Recorder and Fire
<br /> Chief were ordered to complete negotiations on the fire:, truck.
<br /> A communication from H. L. Edmunds, Manager of the Eugene Branch of the United
<br /> States National Bank of Portland, addressed to Fred Wentworth, City Treasurer,
<br /> concerning acknowledgment of the change of parties of contract on interest payable
<br /> the City of Eugene on funds deposited in the local branch, was presented, and on
<br /> motion duly seconded and carried, was unanimously approved.
<br /> I Garbage bond in the amount of $500.00 from Philip Hohnstein, dated October 1,
<br /> 1935, was presented and on motion accepted.
<br /> Application of Mrs. Carma Gibbens for a rooming house permit was presented
<br /> and on motion granted.
<br /> I Councilman Bond asked for two weeks more time on the petition for lights at
<br /> I 24th and Alder and 25th and Kincaid Streets. This was granted.
<br /> A letter from'C. L. Wallace, asking for permission to build on the Southwest
<br /> corner of Lot 6, Block 11, Henderson's Addition, was referred to the Zoning Board
<br /> of Appeals.
<br /> A letter from Robert C. Hall, concerning some assessments, was presented and
<br /> I referred to the Judiciary Committee and City Engineer.
<br /> A letter from the Zoning Board of Appeals was read, in which they recommended
<br /> . that the request of Mrs. CDristine Marnach to move part of her baking equipment
