<br />~ 4:52 <br /> <br />.'... <br />' ' <br /> <br />An Ordinance providing a system of Civil Service for paid firefighters in <br />the City of Eugene was read the first time and referred to the Judiciary <br />Committee. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br /> <br />I' <br /> <br />.-....,t,.;:. <br /> <br /> <br />The Recorder was instructed to call for bids for the management of the <br />city dump grounds to be opened at the next meeting. <br /> <br />The Bond issued to Bray Bros. for hauling garbage, dated April 1, 1936, <br />was presented and ordered placed on file. <br /> <br />The Mayor pointed out that Miss Young had resigned her position in'the <br />office of the City Recorder, to be effective as of April 1, 1936, and that he <br />would like the Council to approve any selection that the Recorder and himself <br />would make~ in the filling of this vacancy. Upon motion, seconded and carried, <br />it was ordered that the Mayor and Recorder name the individual and that her <br />name be placed on the pay roll as of April 1, 1936, and warrant be drawn in <br />payment of her salary at the same time other salaries are paid. <br /> <br />The Mayor pointed out that the League of Oregon Cities was holding an <br />annual convention on the Campus the 19th and 20th of this month, and they were <br />invited to participate. Councilman Hender~hott is to present a paper on <br />Playgrounds. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Councilman Lamb pointed out that there was a man using the barn on city <br />property adjoining the city shops, and he had asked for permission to continue <br />the occupancy until May 1, but it was moved, seconded and carried that he must <br />give up the building by April 1, and pay up the back rent. <br /> <br />It was reported that a wood yard was being conducted at 309 Madison Street, <br />which is city property, and it was ordered that it be cleaned up. <br /> <br />Councilman Zumwalt reported that between 11th and 12th Streets on Jefferson, <br />there was some bad sidewalk, and this was referred to Engineer Clubb to check <br />into. <br /> <br />Councilman Lamb moved that the Recorder be instructed to readvertise for bids <br />for gravel, to be, opened at the next meeting, and itwas so ordered. <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />On mot-ion the Council adjourned to meet on March 23, 1936, at 7::30 o'clock <br />P.
