Th~ ayes and nays were called. <br />Counci Imen vo ting aye, seven, nay, none, absent, Simon ./lgJ' :3 "3> <br /> <br />The contract between Mr. R R Hughes and the City of Eugene for the management <br />of the Ci ty Dump Grounds is to be dated as of i."lay 1, 1936 and to expire as of <br />35 April 30, 1937 and a salary of $30.00 per month to start as of May 1 and it was so <br />ordered. <br /> <br />Councilman Bond reported that Mr. Zimmer who had previously complained con- <br />. cerning certain 6onditions existing at the Pierce Machine Shop had not be~cleared <br />36 up and Mr. Calkins stated that he would write them immediately asking them to abate <br />the nuisance. <br /> <br />37 <br /> <br />Councilman Hendershott reported that fifth street is badly in need of repairs. <br /> <br />38 <br /> <br />The Police were ordered to check mufflers on all trucks and to checl< the <br />speed at which they were driving through the city. <br /> <br />39 <br /> <br />Inasmuch as the appraisal committee had not reported concerning the two pieces <br />of property under consideration, Councilman Harrts <;lsked that their report be kept <br />confidential. But this ques'tion was held over for.d'~cision at the next meeting. <br /> <br />The Mayor reported that the Lane County Relief Committee would like to rent <br />quarters in the city barn for the storage of their supplie5 and that they are will- <br />ing to pay $25.00 per month and that they will furnish all labor if. the city will <br />furnish the material to make certain alterations necessary. The Mayor was ordered <br />to continue negotiations with this committee and reach a satisfactory agreement. <br /> <br />40 <br /> <br />41 I <br /> <br />Councilman Harris at this time reported that the nomination for members to <br />the civil service commission would be held for two more weeks at which time they <br />would know whether or not the police would be under civil service as well as t~~ <br />firemen. <br /> <br />On motion the council adjourned to meet May 25, 1936 at 7:30 P.
