<br /> A letter was received from J. H. Bramely asking for a permit to make some
<br /> alterations in the house at 1101 ~ightb Avenue West and allow him to~move the store
<br />1 which he has been conducting for a number of years from one room to another. The
<br />18 Board recommended that this request be granted. The council made no objections.
<br /> The council approved the Board's recommendation that the east 43 feet of
<br /> Lots 1 and 2, Block 1, Lizzie Luckey Addition; lots 9 and_lO Block 3, Whitney's
<br /> Addition be changed from R-2 to B-2 classification. Mr. .t.. H. Lorence personally ~.
<br /> appeared before the Board on behalf of the Simmons Motor Company asking for a re-
<br /> classification of the temporary used car lot on Wlllamette street at 17th ~venue
<br /> inoorder to erect a commercial building to better accommodate an increase of their
<br />19 business; the plans for any such building to be approved by the Board of Appeals.

<br /> " Fred Porter's request for waiver of interest of $16.20 on property des-
<br /> I cribed as "The west 10.67 feet of the north 106.67 feet of Lot 1, Block 5, Camp-
<br />Jy bell's First Addition. Complainant asserts that he knew nothing about the pre-
<br /> I tended assessment. The matter was referred to the Judiciary Committee and City

<br /> 1 Communication from Lane County =bstract Company, together with check for
<br /> I $32.60, to cover assessment on the east 60 feet of Lot 1, Block 20, Gross Addition
<br /> to Eugene, was rejected by the council. Inasmuch as the total sum against the
<br />~ property in question is $39.28, the council, in conformity to its. previous actions,
<br /> !I felt that the deduction of accrued interest and costs would not be justifiable;
<br />21li hence check for $32.60, payment of principal, was. not accepted. I

<br /> Reports for the.month of September were received from the polia~ Department
<br /> Library, Lane County Health Unit and City .t.ngineer. Upon presentation to the c~n-
<br />22 cil and approved, they were ordered filed.

<br />II Officer and request that he submit to the council a monthly report of the activitie

<br /> If City Recorder requested that the council grant permission for refund of
<br /> license fee paid by Mr. Burns and Tuttle for the operation of, a taxi cab service
<br /> I in the city of ~ugene. Due to the fact that the parties are not able to meet
<br />1 certain requirements of the city's ordinance, revocation of the license is re-
<br />24,1 quested. The recorder's request was granted.
<br /> II City Attorney Calkins stated that he would bring in a written report at the
<br />~ next meeting concerning the ~outhern Pacific Company's request for refund of monies
<br />25~ paid on certain assessments. .-a
<br /> I Resolution authorizing the Mayor and City Recoraer to make, execute and
<br /> I deliver to the respective owners of properties along 19th Avenue which the city
<br /> undertook to widen from 66 feet to 84 feet, and later found it impossible to widen
<br /> the entire area so that there are certain properties widened to a street width of
<br /> 84 feet interspersed with other properties not so wide, and for the purpose of con-
<br /> stituting the remainder of the street east of Patterson Street of a consistent
<br /> I width, it is necessary that certain 9 foot strips on said street be returned to the
<br /> I
<br />)1 owners so that the properties will all conform, was presented, and upon motion
<br />261 made and seconded, the resolution was duly adopted and deeds to be executed.

<br />A south between Potter -and University Streets from 19th to 20th Streets in the city
<br />27\ of Eugene, Oregon was read the first time and laid over.
<br /> I An Ordinance providing for the construction of a sewer, as follows: Begin-

<br /> ning at the main city sewer lying in the alley between WillametteStreet and Oak
<br /> Street in the city of Eugene, between 0eventh Avenue and Eighth Avenue, thence to
<br /> the property herein described, being an eight inch sewer serving the property here-
<br /> in, all in the city of Eugene, Oregon; and declaring an emergency, was presented
<br /> for its first reading and passed to its second and third readings under suspension
<br /> I of the rules by unanimous consent of the council. The ordinance was placed on its
<br />JI final passage; the ayes and nays were called, councilmen voting aye, five; nay, non .
<br /> ,
