Councilman Carlson asked <br /> I that the council take time at this meeting to tear arguments on both sides of the <br /> I question in order: to better able the councilmeri'~o pass judgment at the next meet- <br /> ing. Those heard in opposition to the licensing were Rev. Norman K. Tully, Major <br /> j Ford of the Salvation Army. ~hose speaking in. favor of the licensing were: Har-ry <br /> II C. Farley, president of the Culinary Alliance, Louis De Brugh, member of the Eugen <br /> Beverage Dispenser's Association, Obak Wallace, Elmer Roberts, Frank ~alton and <br /> 19\' Dale Grimes. Mayor Large stated that this question would be left for final de- <br /> cision at the next meeting. '~ I <br /> / <br /> Communication from the Eugene Water Board stating that the city of Eugene <br /> has paid in full for the years 1935 and 19q6 for water used on the plantings on <br /> 20 the south side of Skinner's Butte Memorial ~ark was ordered filed. ~ <br /> /' <br /> Reports for activities during the month of August, 1937, were received froID <br /> the following departments: Police, Fire, Engineer, Lane County Health and Public <br /> 211 Lipnary and ordered filed. <br /> Skating Rink License at 7th and Willamette Street to be operated by Earl <br /> H. Neal was granted by the council upon the recommendation of Chief of Police <br /> 22 Carl F. Bergman. <br /> / <br /> Resolution authorizing the City Attorney to bring Elny and all suits or pro- <br /> ceedings necessary for the acquisition of property for thEl completion of a powe~ <br /> ~ '3.)r line by the Eugene Water Board, was upon motion made and fieconded, duly approved: <br /> I RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY The Common Council of the City ,of Eugene, that _. <br /> Whereas, the City of Eugene, acting by and through its Water Board, <br /> have projected, surveyed, laid out and located upon the ground and <br /> I very largely acquired easements, rights of way and property rights <br /> for the construction of an additional transmission line for elec- <br /> tricity and communication between the c,ity and its utilities upon <br /> I the McKenzie River, and in order to complete said :Line it may be <br /> I <br /> necessary to bring suits or condemnation proceedings, I' <br /> I 'rhe Ci ty attorney be and he is hereby authorized a:1d directed to <br /> " <br /> bring any and all suits, actions or proceedings ne:essary or con- <br /> I venient for the acquisition of property and rights for the comple- <br /> I <br /> tion of said power line and to acquire for the cit1 such property <br /> and right s. <br /> I - <br /> ~ ,I <br />
