<br />The minutes of the regular meeting of the common council held at the hour
<br />of 7:30 o'clock P. M., January 10, 1938. M~yor Large called the meeting to order.
<br />All councilmen were present except Mr. C. C. Page. The minutes of the previous
<br />meeting were presented and ordered filed.
<br />
<br />Mr. C. A. Huntington, speaking on behalf of a Special Committee appointed
<br />by the Chamber of Commerce to establish an athletic field in the city of Eugene,
<br />re~uested the Mayor to appoint a Committee to meet with the School Board for such
<br />a proposed program. It being understood that the School Board was willing to con-
<br />tribute $6000 and the Committee of the Chamber of Commerce a like sum. It was the
<br />belief of the Committee that the property consisting of 17 acres locsted at 19th
<br />and ~illaffiette Streets in which the city has $6000 should be the city's share.
<br />Further, that they needed action iID.I::'.ediately in order that they could file appli-
<br />ca t ion wi th ,the F1J'\lA author it ies for the pro j ec t. Mayor Large appo inted the Finance
<br />Committee and the City Attorney to meet with the Committee of the School Board and
<br />other Comlliittees in order to work out a program and report at the next meeting of
<br />the council.

<br />Ordinance providing for a contract with United Air Lines fo~ rental of
<br />airport property for the year 1938 had its first reading and passed to its second
<br />and third readings by unanimous consent of the council under suspension of the
<br />rules and was placed for final'passage. The ayes and nays were called, councilmen
<br />voting aye: Lamb, Hendershott, Reid, Hanns, Farrington, Bond and Carlson; nay,
<br />none; absent, Page. The ordinance was declared passed and numbered 8528.

<br />. The $130.00 offer of E. B. Rife for Lots 7 and 8, ~lock 2, Blair Street
<br />Addition, was denied by the Finance Committee and a counter-offer of $185.00 cash
<br />or $25.00 down and $10.00 per month on a principal amount of $200.00 plus interest
<br />was extended. Upon motion made and duly seconded, the recommendation of the Financ
<br />(4 Committee was unaniliously approved.
<br />
<br />The $300.00 off?r of Robert Walden for Lot 10, Block 12, Gross Addition
<br />was denied by the Finance Committee and a counter-offer of ,$450.00 extended with
<br />the further condi tlon that the purchaser must' build his residence on said property
<br />within a period, of twelve months. Upon motion made and duly seconded, recommenda-
<br />tion of the Committee was accepted.

<br />Mr. S. L. Smith's $5.00 offer to the city for the garage located at 16th
<br />,6 a~d Ch~rnelton Streets was upon motion made and seconded, accepted.

<br />Ralph W. Nissen's offer of ~300.00 for Lot 2, Block 1, Cherry Grove Ad-
<br />dition, was rejected by the Finance Committee and this recommendation was duly ac-
<br />/7 cepted.

<br />The $80.00 offer of Claude G. Erwin for the ~est 130 feet of Lot 59,
<br />Foster's Addition, was rejected by the Finance Committee and a counter-offer of
<br />$100.00 cash or $25.00 down Qnd $10.00 per month plus interest on a principal sum
<br />of $120.00 extended to the purchaser. Upon motion made and duly seconded, the
<br />J 8 recommenda t ion of the Finance Commi ttee was duly approved.

<br />It was reported by the Finance Committee that E. D. Ferguson, who rents
<br />the residence at 974 Taylor Street, wishes permission to purchase paint and calso-
<br />mine for remodeling the interior of the house at a cost of $3.50 to be deducted
<br />from the rent wlhich is $5.00 per month. The Finance Committee's report was duly
<br />approved by the council.

<br />It'was reported by the Finance Committee that on February 23, 1937,
<br />James A. Rodman purChased frolli the city lots 1,2,3,4,5,6, 15, and 16, Block 30,
<br />Driverton's Lddition for $5,977.12, having paid on this amount $977..13. Now, Mr.
<br />Rodman has entered into a contract for the sale of Lots 3 and 4 and the residence
<br />thereon ~nd it is his desire to have said lots 3 and 4 senaruted from the balance
<br />of the property and to pay a proportionate share of the b~lance which is $5000.00
<br />for the separation. The request of Mr. Rodman was rejected and he is to be in-
<br />fbrmed that it is thedesire of the council that he continue in accordance with the
<br />prOVisions of his original contract.
<br />
<br />The Finance Committee reported the following bills to the council with a
<br />recommendation that they be allowed and motion was made, seconded and carried that
<br />warrants be drawn for the same. The ayes and nays were called, councilmen voting
<br />aye: Lamb, Hendershott, Reid, Hanhs, Farrington, Bond and Carlson; nay, none;
