Leading the opposition for further licensing of the devices were <br />Rev. Norman K. Tully, representing the Eugene Ministerial Association, C. Madison <br />Landaker, on behalf of the Presbyterian Fairmount Sunday School, and Harry Johnson. <br />In ravor of continued operations of the machines were Elmer Roberts, L. C. DeBurgh <br />and Mr. Hawley, representing the Culinary Alliance. Mr. Hawley pointed out that <br />in a number of restaurants, help was being paid union wages by reason of the revenu <br />derived from the pinball machines and asked that the same be continued. At this <br />time the City Recorder presented for first reading an ordinance repealing Ord. No. <br />8425 and 8480 and declaring an emergency. The Recorder further reported that he ha <br />been asked by the local WCTU and the East Side Neighbors Club to register prot8sts <br />on their behalf for the continuation of pinball machines.
