<br />Resolution to amend the charter of 1:he City of Eugene and adopting civil service for all
<br />employees of its street and sewer departments, was presented. After a thorough discussion in which
<br />the majority of councilmen expressed disapproval of the application of Civil Service in the present
<br />departments of the administration, the final vote on the proposed measure stood as follows: Aye:
<br />Lamb, Hanns and Bond; nay; Hendershott, Reid, Page and Farrington. Hence, the resolution asking tha
<br />the electorate be allowed to vote on civil service for -the employees ot' the street department, was
<br />voted down four to three.

<br />Report to the Counoil from the Eugene Wrestling am Boxing Conmussion on the reoeipts for
<br />the year 1937 was presented. It was revealed that there was a grand total of $1707.89, which by law
<br />would be appropriated as follows: Polioe Matron $683.16; Veterans of Foreign War, $228.19; Disabled
<br />Veterans of Foreign War, $101.41; Spanish War Veterans" $190.16; AmeriCIan Legion, $498.63; Grand
<br />Army of Republic $6.34.
