<br />Mayor Large stated that in a conversation with Herman Kehrli he had learned that the Lea e
<br />of Oregon Cities had reoeived an additional federal grant which would make it possible to codify the
<br />ordinances of the City of Eugene at a cost of $500.00. He further stated that should application be
<br />made , it would not be acted upon until fall or uD:til after budget time arid the oi ty would not have
<br />to continue with said application if the counoil decided to reject it in the meantime. Upon motion
<br />20 made and seconded, application was ordered made for said project.

<br />At this time Councilman Hendershott raised the question of constructing a sewer to certa'
<br />properties located at the south end of University Street. City, Attorney Cal~ins stated that funds
<br />for said improvement oould not be taken from the Improvement Bond Sinking Fund. No further discussi n

<br />Councilman Bond, Chairman of the Police Connnittee, reported that 409 tickets had been
<br />22 meted out to traffic violators during the month of' Febroary.

<br />Police Committee Chairman Bond reported that Ed Kuni appoint.ed last year ,as dog catcher,
<br />was willing to serve the city again this year on the same condition and terms agreed upon the for-
<br />mer year, and recommended his appointment. He further recommended that, suitable quarters be con-
<br />structed to house the dogs picked up. Upon motion made and seconded, the recommendation of the
<br />Police Committee was duly approved by the council.

<br />An ordinance repealing Ordinance No. 8439 entitled "An ordinance regulating the use of
<br />power-speakers, callippes and other noise-making, music-making or speech-making devices upon the
<br />streets of, the City of Eugene and requiring a license therefor," was re,ad the first time and passed
<br />to its second reading. Final reading of the ordinance will be made at the next meeting of the
<br />council inasmuch as the "NO" vote of Councilman Hendershott prevented t:he repealof' the ordinance,
<br />which requires unanimous vote of the council for the emergency clause.

<br />Mrs. Fred Broders, representing the local Garden Club, asked, for council cooperation in a
<br />city-wide "cle~up" early in April. A house-to-house canvass will be made to interest all resident .
<br />Arrangements will be made for hauling away of rubbish where residents plaoe it on the curb. The oos
<br />will be determined later. The oouncil offered its whole-hearted support to assist in making the
<br />25, city more presentable.
