The council also reviewed the quarterl~_ report, Jan- <br />March, 1938, of the Lane County Health Department. Mr. Hendershott, Chair- <br />man of. the Finance Committee, pointed out that this was the site proposed by Jack <br />Kesling for the erection of his church and that Mr. Kesling had been informed that <br />the property would not be available. <br /> <br />Presentation of a revised ordinance providing for the assurance of a pure <br />water supply in the City of Eugene, had its first reading and referred to the Healt <br />Committee to study with the Health Board and report at the next meeting of the <br />I . <br />council. <br /> <br />City Recorder presented a bill in the amount of $1.50 fro~ Sigloh-Sawyer for <br />damages to a street department truck by D.G. Teeter, North 7th Street, Springfield, <br />Oregon. It was reported that Mr. Teeter had been billed for this,item and had <br />appeared in the office of the Recorder but refused to make payment as he claimed <br />that it was no~ 'act' of negligibility on his part. The Cit;/ Attorney was instructed <br />to investigate. <br /> <br />Dance Hall license to Townsend Headquarters for the year 1938, was granted by <br />the council upon the approval of Chief of Police, Carl F. Bergman. <br /> <br />The Recorder reported that a total of $223.25 was received since March 24, <br />from sales of dog licenses of which a balance of $46.60 is retained by the city as <br />profit. <br /> <br />Resolution authorizing the Mayor and Recorder to execute a deed on behalf of <br />George A. and Dorothy B. Metzger, was upon motion made and seconded, adopted by the <br />council: <br /> <br />RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The Ci ty of, Eugene has acquired the East 70 feet of Lot 7 <br />and the East 70 feet of the South 1/2 of Lot 8, Block 24, Gross <br />Addition to Eugene, Lane County, Oregon, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The Ci ty of Eugene has caused, the same to be appraised and <br />determined its value, and <br /> <br />Y;HEREAS, George A. Metzger and Dorothy B. Metzger have offered the <br />City $750.00 cash for said property, which, according to the ap- <br />praisement is all that the pror~rty is worth, <br /> <br />NOW, 'THEREFORE, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED, By the Common Council of the City of Eu~ene that <br />the Mayor and Recorder be and they are hereby directed to execute <br />and deliver to George A. Metzger and Doro~h~ Bi Metzger, a good <br />and sufficient deed of conveyance to the above described property <br />on behalf of the City of Eugene. <br /> <br />An ordinance amending Section 3 of Ordinance #95 entitled "An ordinance con- <br />cerning offenses and disorderly conduc t," by r ais ing the fine from five to fifteen <br />dollars to five to one hundred dollars, had its first reading and passed to its <br />second and third readings by title under suspension of the rule by unanimous consen <br />of the c ounc i 1 and was placed for final passage. 'l'he aye s and nays were call ed, <br />councilmen voting aye: Lamb, Hendershott, Reid, Page, Hanns, Farrington, and Bond; <br />nay, none; absent, Carlson. The ordinance was declared p~ssed and numbered 8538. <br /> <br />Proposal to lease Room #11 on the 2nd floor of the City Hall by the Internal <br />Revenue Commission at a rental of $120.00 per year, commencing July 1, 1938 and ter <br />minating June 30, 1939, was held for further consideration as the council felt that <br />a rental of $10.00 per month was not sufficient for occupancy of this room.
