<br /> J~ The minutes of the regular meeting of the Common Council held at the hour

<br /> t\) of 7:30 otclock P.M., August 8, 1938. Mayor Elisha Large presided over the meeting
<br /> Councilmen present were: Messrs. Lamb, Hendershott, Reid, Page, Hanns, Farrington,
<br /> 1 Bond and Carlson; absent, none.
<br /> The minutes of the previous meeting, July 25, 1938, were presented and
<br /> 2 ordered filed.
<br /> Due to the failure of the New Service Laundry smoke stack to retain the I
<br /> soot let ofr by burning sawdust, E. R. Frank reported that a very deplorable con-
<br /> dition existed. Mr. Frank stated that residents in that neighborhood could not
<br /> allow their doors or windows open by reason of this condition. Several members or
<br /> the council had already looked into the matter. It was decided that it be referred
<br /> :3 to the Health Committee to confer with the management of the Laundry.

<br /> The Judiciary Committee was granted another two weeks to report on the
<br /> 4 R~ey Rugh matter'.
<br /> I The $450.00 offer of Lols McHoes for Lot 22, Block 1, Hendrick's Amended
<br /> Add! t ion, was denie d by the Finance Commi t.tee and a counter -offer of $525.00 exten-
<br /> ded. Upon motion made and seconded, this recommendation was duly approved by the
<br /> 5 council.
<br /> I The $700.00 offer of Marvin L. Strout for Lot 4, Block 8, Hollenbeck Ad-
<br /> dition, was accepted by the Finance Committee and upon motion made and duly seconde ,
<br /> the recommendation of the Committee was unanimously approved and the Treasurer's
<br /> Office herewith instructed to proceed with the execution of the necessary papers in
<br /> confirmation of the sale as" directed by the general resolution adopted by the Commo
<br /> 6 Council on June 13, 1938, authorizing such action and it was so ordered.
<br /> I The $575.00 offer of ~homas D. McHoes for Lot 8, Block 5, .Hollenbeck Ad-.
<br /> dition, was denied by the Finance Committee and a counter-offer of $659.02 extended
<br /> Upon motion m~de and seconded, the recommendation of the Finance Committee was duly I
<br /> 7 approved.

<br /> The $1200.00 cash offer of B. Rosenberg for the South 100 feet of Lot la,
<br /> Block 3, Whiteaker"s Addition, was denied by the Finance Committee and a counter-
<br /> offer of $1800.00 extended. Upon motion made and seconded, the recommendation of
<br /> 8 the Committee was duly approved.
<br /> / The $460.00 offer of V. W. Gowdy for the East 75 feet of Lots 11 and 12,
<br /> Block 15, College Hill Park Addition, was denied by the Finance Committee and a
<br /> counter-offer of $600.00 for a tract 60 x 120 feet, extended. Upon motion made and
<br /> 9 seconded, the recommendation of the Committee was approved.

<br /> The offer of Mrs.
<br /> feet of the West 75 feet of Lots 5 and 6~ Block 1, Melrose Addition, was denied by
<br /> the Committee with a recommendation that the buyer pay $.200.00 for both lots with a
<br /> 10 down payment of $50.00 and this action was duly approved by the council.
<br /> I' Notice from W. B. Dillard, Lane County Clerk, notifying the council that
<br /> they have an offer on the West 60 feet of Lot 6, Block 4, Maplecroft Addition, was
<br /> presented. The Finance Committee recommended that the city pay the taxes to protec
<br /> its liens and set a sale price of $125.00 on the property. Upon motion made and \
<br /> 11 seconded, the recommendation of the Committee was duly approved.
<br /> / The $800.00 offer of Mrs.. Robert E. Toner for Lots 9 and 10, Block 4,
<br /> Gross Addition, was denied by the Finance Committee and a counter-offer of $1250.00 I
<br /> extended. Upon motion made and seconded, the recommendation of the Committee was
<br /> 12 duly approved.
<br /> I The $800.00 offer of Tpomas E. CaijY for Lots 11 and 12, Block 4, Gross
<br /> Addition, was denied by the Finance Committee and a counter-offer of $1250.00 ex-
<br /> tended. Upon motion made and seconded, the recommendation of the Committee was dul
<br /> 13 approved. n
<br /> ) The $1000 cash offer of Dr. R. C. Faust for Lot 12, Block 5, Gross Ad- I
<br /> dition, was denied by the Finance Committee and a counter-offer of $1500.00 extende. ..
<br /> 14 This recommendation was duly approved by members of the council.

<br /> The $125.00 offer of A. G. Enright for Lot 16, Block 2, Agate Plat, was
<br /> approved by the Finance Committee if Mr. Enright will accept a bargain and sale
<br /> 15/ deed. Upon motion made and seconded, this recommendation was duly approved.
<br /> The $600.00 cash offer of E. H. Peterson, on behalf of a client, for the
<br /> ~
