<br /> to advertise for bids for audit of the city books for the year 1939~ sealed bids to

<br /> Mr. Carlson; Chairman of the Street Department, reported that a Mr.
<br /> Howard Amon was acquiring title to a triangular strip of property extending from
<br /> Willamette to Mill Street on the ,north side of twenty-third Avenue. This strip is
<br /> 80 feet on Willamette Stree,t. and narrows down to about 10 feet on Mill Street.
<br /> Mr. Amon requests that the city deed to him the present 23rd Avenue east from
<br /> Willamette to Mill and he in turn will deed back to the city a strip of the same
<br /> width as the present 23rd Street. Upon motion made and seconded, this request was
<br /> granted and the Mayor ,and Recorder were instructed to sign deed for proper convey-
<br />16 ance and it was so ordered. I
<br />I Mr. Hanns, Chairman of the Fire and Water Committee, requested that
<br /> statements be submitted to the parties named herein for services rendered them by.
<br /> the Fire Department on calls made in the outlying districts and it was so ordered:

<br /> Councilman Page, Park Committee Chairman, stated that there were two
<br /> WPA projects on which they would like to commence work by November 22nd instead of
<br /> waiting until after the first of the year. He said one was to finish up the old
<br /> fence job that had been started in Hendrick's Park and the other was some work on
<br /> Skinnerls Butte Park. He stated that there would be no cash outlay necessary on
<br /> these until the first of 1939 and asked that this work be allqwed. On motion ma~e,
<br />18 seconded, and duly carried, the request was granted.

<br /> The Police COlf~ittee.requested an additional two weeks to study the
<br /> matter of stop signs and other traffic regulation measures presented to his committ e
<br />19 at the previous meeting in the form of petitions. This was allowed.

<br /> Councilman Hanns asked that the matter of an electric stop signal at
<br /> 13th and Wil1amette Streets be referred to the Police Department. He ,suggested the
<br /> installation or a stop signal to halt the north and south traffic that could be
<br /> controlled from the Police Office on account of the danger of children going and
<br /> coming from school. He further suggested that this signal be used in the morning
<br /> probably from 7:30 to 9:00 and again at noon and in the afternoon when the children
<br /> are returning from school. On motion made, seconded and duly carried, this matter I
<br />20 was so ordered.

<br /> An ordinance providing for service in the extinguishing of fires out-
<br /> side of the city limits of Eugene was presented for its third reading. Councilman
<br /> Hanns suggested that the ordinance be amended to read "in the penal sum of Two
<br /> Hundred Do1larstl instead of the $100.00 originally required. Upon motion made and
<br /> seconded, this amendment was duly approved and the ordinanq~ had its third readipg,
<br /> and was placed for final pas~age. The ayes and nays were called: Aye, Hendershott, I
<br /> Reid, Page, Hanns, Farrington, Bond and Carlson; nay, none; absent, Lamb. The or-
<br />21 dinance was declared passed and numbered 8558.
<br /> Resolution requesting the, legislature to fix a maximum series of speeds
<br /> in cities, was presented and upon motion made and seconded, duly adop: ed by the
