<br /> Upon recommendation of the Finance Committee, motion- was made, seconded
<br /> and approved that the Realty Board be notified of the expiration of the contract
<br />I between the City of Eugene and the Realty Board and further, to inform the Boa rd \,')

<br /> The Finance Committee requested the members of the council to prepare -:;1

<br /> for a discussion on a method of compensating individual members of the Realty Board ..~.-t
<br /> handling city lot sales. It was also recommended that until the next council meetin ,
<br /> at which time the matter should be settled, individual memoers of the Realty Board
<br /> 16- sell.ing city lots were to receive regular commissions.
<br />I Councilman Hanns reported that his committee had considered the recommenda-
<br /> tion of the State Fire Marshall to set up within Eugene a Municipal Fire M?rshall
<br /> department but recommended a continuation of the present -system of inspection sur-
<br /> sur vey. Upon motion made and seconded the recomrnenaatioh was unanimously app-
<br /> 17 roved.
<br /> With reference to the installation of portable boilers, Councilman Hanns,
<br /> Chairman of the Fire & Water Committee, requested the Recorder to read communica-
<br /> tions from W. E. Nus baum, Eugene Fir e Chief B.nd communica"tion rrotn Fred W. Roberts,
<br /> Portland Fire Marshall. Upon reading the communications, it was learned that the
<br /> City of Portland allowed the installation of the boilers upon meeting designated
<br />. requirements. It was also revealed that within the City of Eugene there was a sligh
<br /> increase in insurance rates on the business involved where the boiler is in the
<br /> inside of the bui Id ing, but the insurance rates do not extend to the ad jo ining pr,-op-
<br /> erty. It was the recommendation of the committee that the Council allow the install -
<br /> lEY tion of portable hoilers in the City of Eugene and upon motion made and seconded
<br /> the recommendation w'as unanimous ly approved.
<br /> Councilman Page,. Chairman of the Farks Committee stated that his committee
<br /> had investigated the req~st of Edward Rostein of Rostein Realty Company for
<br /> connecting the open road in Hendrick's Park with the road being built by Mr.
<br /> Rostein, stating that the committee's opinion was divided as to whether or. not
<br /> the reque st should be granted. Counci Iman Fage s ta ted tha t he 110 uld recomme nd grant ng
<br /> the request but Councilman Reid opposed granting the r eque st upon the grounds tha t
<br /> it provided too many entrances and exists to the park, and it would increase traffic
<br />I He also stated that there was no provision for the upkeep of said road. After
<br /> considerable discussion by warious members of the council, motion was made by
<br /> C.ounci Iman Page and seconded by Counci Iman Carl son, that the reque st be granted
<br /> upon condition that a twenty-four foot wide connecting road be built by Rostein and
<br /> the building of the road be under complete supervision and direction of the City
<br /> 19- Engineer, and it was so ordered.
<br /> Councilman Relid. stated that theSewer Commi ttee was not in position to report
<br /> on the Sewerage claim of Bertha M. Furrow and requested two more weeks in which to
<br /> 20""- consider the case. The reqm st was unanimously granted.
<br /> The Sewer Committee further stated that it was their recommendation to deny
<br /> the request for a storm sewer on Onyx Street between 24th and 25th because of insurf -
<br /> cient funds. Upon motion made and seconded the recommendation was unani~ously
<br /> 21.-: approved.
<br /> The Sewer Committee requested the Common Council's approval in the committee s
<br /> action in purchasing the following described property from the Sewage Disposal
<br /> fund for Sewage Disposal plant purposes:

<br /> County, Oregon, and run thence north 99 feet, thence west 328.95
<br /> feet to the East line of Polk street is projected north, thence

<br /> tance of 99.10 feet to the north line of Mathews Park Addition a
<br /> a distance of 329.88 feet, to the place of beginning, containing
<br /> 0.75 acres. Also beginning at a point 99 feet north of the north
<br /> east corner of Mathews Park, in Lane County, Oregon, as platted and
<br /> rBcorded in Plat Book No. 4. at page 59 of Plat r.ecords of Lane County,
<br /> Oregon, and run thence west along the north line of lot one so-called,
<br /> heretofore deeded to Ray S. Thomason, a distance of 328.95 feet to
<br /> the east line of Polk Street if extended north, and thence north
<br />I along said east line of Polk street so extended a distance of 99.10
<br /> feet, thence east 328.03 feet, thence south 99 feet to the place of ../
<br /> beginning, containing ..75 acres, all in Lane County, and State of Oregon.
