<br /> - The purchase price of the Moriarity Tract is $1000._00 and the purchase
<br /> price of the Heckathorn Tract is $2100.00 and the City of Eugene paid to
<br /> the Eugene Abstract Company, $21.00 for a complete abstracts on both
<br /> tracts. The City is also to pay taxes in the amount of $56.70 on the
<br /> Mor'iari ty Tract.
<br /> The ayes and nays were called, councilmen voting aye: Reid, Bond, Carlson, Hanns, I
<br />22 ?age and Koppe; nay: none; absent: Lamb and Farrington. The purchasing of the
<br /> property was declared approved.

<br /> At, this time Mayor Large reported that various local service clubs and the
<br /> State Highway Department requested permission to install the club signs within the
<br /> ~ city limits of Eugene at both highway entrances to the city. Upon motion made. and
<br />2 ' seconded the request was unanimously approved.
<br /> Communication from the Board of Appeals presented an appeal f"rom R. E.
<br /> Barrett, Architect for the Safeway Stores, Inc. and R. B. McMath, Real Estate Manage r
<br /> for the Safeway Stores, as to the amount of reinforcing steel to be placed in the
<br /> panel walls between the pilasters and in the rear wall. The Board recommended that
<br /> the appeal ants be required to move the two one-half inch bars from the top of the
<br /> wall and with two additional bars of the same size,place them in the wall just
<br /> ~elow the line of the truss cords. Also that they be required to place three
<br /> eighths bars eighteen inches on centers vertically in theI'ear wall. Upon motion
<br />24 made and seconded the recommendation of the Beard of Appeals was unanimously appr'ove d.
<br /> A request received by the Board of Appeals from Charles P. Poole asking
<br /> for a waiver of the Building Code in regard to the amount of window space in two
<br /> walls of his proposed reconstructed funeral home which are less than three reet
<br /> from property lines. The Board recommends that this request be granted on condi-
<br /> tion that he use steel sash and wire glass in the windows in the south and west
<br /> walls on the first and second stories. Upon motion made and seconded the recommend - I
<br />25~ tion of the Board was unanimously approved.
<br /> A request was also received from Dale Carson asking for a permit to be
<br /> allowed to use a special type chimney in his saw shop at 670 Olive Street.
<br /> The Board recommended that this request be granted and upon motion made and seconde
<br />36./ the recommendation was unanimously approved.
<br /> Communication was presented from Lottie N. Rugh calling attention to the :
<br /> traffic condition on Twenty-Second, twenty-third and twenty-fourth streets entering
<br /> South Willamette Street, stating that these streets should be made stop streets
<br /> due to the existing heavy traffic. After a short discussion, the Police Committee
<br /> recommended that stop signs be placed at these intersections and upon motion made
<br />21,.-<: and seconded the r:ecommendation was, unanimously approved.
<br /> At this time Mayor Large called for objections to the proposed zoning
<br /> changes reclassifying single and multiple family rBsidences as advertised and as
<br /> are contained in the ordinance that is being presented for its final reading. As
<br /> there were no objections, City Engineer' Clubb explained in oetail the proposed
<br /> changes and the ordinance had its 2nd reading and was placed for its final reading
<br /> under suspension of the rules. ~he ayes and nays were called, Councilmen voting
<br /> aye: Reid, Bond, Carlson, Hanns, Page and Koppe; nay:' none; absent: Lamb and
<br /> Farrington. The ordinance was declared passed and numbered 8622. (note: this

<br /> Mr. William Hargreaves, local contractor, requested that zoning ordinance I
<br /> No. 8622 be changed to allow the construction of duplex dwellings on single ramily ~
<br /> residence lots as well as on mul tiple family residence lots.. The reque st was
<br /> referred to the Planning Commission for study and a request to report at the next
<br />2.9f council meeting. ..
<br /> An application for an apartment house at 45 ~ast ~roadway in behalf of
<br /> Frank Haba, and an application for a roomIng and apartment house at 32~ West Eighth
<br /> Street in behalf of Floy Johnson, were presented and upon being approved by the
<br />301 Chief of Pol.ice, mot,ion was made and seconded that licenses be granted and it was I
<br /> so ordered.
