E. Henzler asking for a waiver of the required "Se-back" on the <br />lot at the southwest corner of the intersection of Polk Street and Eighth Avenue. <br />The Board would recommend that the request, as shovm by plot accompanying request, <br />be granted on condition that he build the store--the imitation brick wall covering <br />to be eliminated--one residence'and the garage this year. After a short discussion, <br />motion was made and seconded that the request be denied and the motion was unanimous ~ <br />carried. <br /> <br />36- <br /> <br />.\ <br /> <br />A request was received from H. E. Cully for a client asking that the "B_2" <br />Zone on the lot at the northeast corner of the intersection of Chambers Street a~d <br />Eleventh Avenue be increased from 80 feet by 70 feet to 141 feet by 120 feet in <br />order to permit the erection of a market and service station, the remainder of the <br />plot 292.92 feet by 231 feet to be divided into residence lots. The Board of <br />Appeals recor@lended that the request be granted, and motion was made and seconded <br />37~ unanimously approving the recommendation. <br /> <br />( <br /> <br />. ~;' <br /> <br />A request was received from Samuel D. Meier for a permit to/convert his <br />house at 1982 Charnelton Street' into an apartment house. '1'he Board of Appeals <br />recommends that this request be denied and motion was made and seconded approving <br />38v the recommendation of the Board. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />A request was received from E. R. Endicott asking for a permit to convert <br />his residence at 1639 Jefferson Street into an apartment house. The Board of <br />Appeals recooonends that this request be denied and .motion was made and seconded <br />39 approving the recommendation of the Board. <br /> <br />. <br />A request was received from Zoe Whittenberg asking for a permit to erect a <br />duplex residence on her property at 534 East Fifteenth Avenue according to plans <br />in the office of the City Engineer. As this building would be a vast improvement <br />to this locality, the Board recommends that' the pe~mit be granted and motion was <br />40v made and seconded approving the Board's recommendation. <br /> <br />A request was received from J. C. Watts asking to be allowed a 10 foot <br />"set-back" on his property at 1566-1568 Olive Street. The Board of Appeals <br />reconmlends that he be granted a 15 foot'~et-backtt and motion was made and seconded <br />41'- unanimously approving the recommendation of ,the Board. <br /> <br />At this time Councilman Hanns sugg'ested that in the future people asking <br />for a change in the building classifications present their plans so the council <br />42 v might have a complete picture of tIle request. <br /> <br />Monthly reports were presented from the offices'" of the City Engineer, Police <br />4~ Matron and Police Department and ordered placed<on fiilie; <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />A statement of sewerage charges billed and collected for the month of <br />February, 1940 was presented from the Eugene Water Board showing a total collection <br />of $1,530.73 for the month of February, which brings the total collections up to <br />44~ $20,577.03. The report was ordered placed on file. <br /> <br />A petition to vacate 21st Street between Olive and McMillan Streets was <br />presented and referred to the Judiciary Committee, City Attorney and also the <br />Street COnIDlittee for the purpose of extending the proposed vacation from Willamette <br />45"" and Olive Streets. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />A curb cut application was presented from Irish & Swartz, inc. This <br />application was presented at the council meeting of February 12, and the City <br />Engineer recolmnended that one cut be given east of store building, width 40 feet, <br />other cuts be rejected until plans are furnished showing location of buildings on <br />property. The City Engineer now recommends that the cuts be granted as shown on <br />the sketch attached to the application. Motion was made and seconded approving <br />the recmnmendation of;the City Engineer. A curb cut application was also presented <br />from Edith Davis, and the City Engineer recooonended that the request be granted <br />which was approved by the council. A curb cut application was received from C. P. <br />Tillman. The City Engineer reported that this was not a driveway and cars would <br />be parked across the sidewalk and recommended that the cut be denied. Upon motion <br />46\ made and seconded the recollIDlendation was unanimously approved. <br /> <br />The City Recorder presented a communication from W. B. Dillard, County <br />Clerk, addressed to the City Recorder Showing the returns on the swimming pool <br />petitions. The official returns showed that there were 1173 good and regular <br />signatures. The City Recorder reported that the City'Char~er provisions required <br /> <br />, ,~ <br />
