Council Chambers Eugene, Oregon <br /> July 1, 1940 <br /> The council met in special meeting pursuant to the call of h~yor <br /> Large with all councilmen present except Messr. Carlson. A vacancy existed from <br /> the Second Ward because of the recent resignation of Councilman Cox. <br /> Mayor Large announced that he had met vdth the Chamber of Commerce <br /> Airport Committee at which time the committee recorrunended to tthe Mayor and the <br /> City Council that site #1, approximately seven miles northwest of the city, <br /> be surveyed and platted according to the master plan as prepared by the Civil <br /> Aeronautics Authority. Mr. Clubb stated that options had been received for Site <br /> #1 at a total cost of $63,000.00. <br /> Councilman Koppe expressed the opinion that this was a matter for the <br /> county as a whole and not just for the City of Eugene and wanted to know if <br />I something could be done along these lines. Councilman Barette stated if the city <br /> buys this property, he wanted to know if that was all the city would put into an <br /> airport, being understood that if it was constructed as suggested the total cost <br /> would be in the neighborhood of one-half million dollars. After full and complete <br /> discussion by the Council, motion was made by Councilman Bond, seconded by <br /> Councilman Reid, and unanimously approved by the council, instructing the City <br /> Engineer to draw a master plan and survey of site #1, cost of the same not to exceed <br /> thbee or four hundred dollars. <br /> Upon motion the meeting was adjourned. <br /> C.
