Councilman Bond, Chairman of the Police Committee, <br />I presented an ~pp11cat10n from J. A. Morgan & Carroll Kennedy, and an application <br />f~om Mr~. Els1e Erlandson for a Package Store Class A liquor license. A general m <br />d1SCUSS~0~ was had by members of th~ council participated in by Mr. Charles I. Wilso ~!~ <br />former J01nt-owner of the Lawrence Street Grocery and Mrs. Elsie Erlandson, ,purchase ~, <br />of the Lawrence Street Grocery. It appeared that Mr. Wilson was requesting $500 , ~~ <br />as the purchase price of his liquor license and inasmuch as Mrs. Erlandson was not <br />willing to pay it, Mr. Wilson had sold the license to Messrs. Morgan and Kennedy and <br />now they were asking the council for a permit to transfer the license to Messrs. "', <br />Morgan and Kennedy. It was the Police Committee's recommendation that both applica- ;'~~ <br />tions be denied and the recommendation was unanimously approved. The applicants "", <br />I and former owner of the license were requested to settle the matter between them- .'.. <br />22~ selves and report the settlement back to the council. <br /> <br />Councilman Bond reported that complaints had been received from property <br />owners because the telephone company was installing guy wires from the poles to <br />23r directly in front of their residences making it a nuisance and very unsightly. <br /> <br />Councilman Reid recommended to the Common Council the appointment of Mr. 1. . <br />Stewart, to succeed Mr. H. J. Cox who had resigned from the Second Ward because of <br />his change in residence. Motion was made and seconded unanimously approving the <br />appointment and Mayor Large designated Mr. Stewart to succeed Mr. Cox on all Council <br />24 L... C ommi t tee s . <br /> <br />Communication was presented from Norman T. Schneider regarding the property <br />at 1420 West 6th Street about to be foreclosed upon for taxes. He was requesting <br />the city to pay the taxes and charge the same against the purchase price and he <br />Fould continue his payments of $10.00 per month until all obligations to the city <br />- 25~~ere paid in full. The request was referred to the Finance Committee. <br /> <br />The City Recorder reported that communication had been received from R. H. <br />Jotmston, Fireman, npw on active duty with the U. S. Army at Fort Lewis, in which <br />he stated that he had been ordered to duty with the regular army for an indefinite <br />26\ period of time. The communication-was ordered placed on file. <br /> <br />~ Communication was presented from O. T. Gilstrap in behalf of R. L. Polk and <br />I Company offering to supply the offices at the city hall with 1941 directories at <br />the price of $10.00 each. Communication was also presented. from the Valley Printing <br />Company offering city ,directories to the city hall offices at the price of $12.50 <br />2~ each. Both communications were referred to the Finance Committee to report back. <br /> <br />Communication was presented from Mr. C. E. Gray, recommending the removal <br />of the three trees in the parking strip north of the library when the matter comes <br />fP for re-laying the sidewalk. The communication was referred to the Park Committee <br />228\ and the City Engineer to investig,ate and report back. <br /> <br />I Communication was presented from the Board of Appeals presenting the <br />request from A. A. Furber asking for a permit to make certain small alterations and <br />Irepairs to his box factory at 1385 Viillamette Street. The Board recommends that this <br />29- ~equest be granted and the recommendation was unanimously approved. <br /> <br />I 'Request was received from Marie Tinker asking for a permit to convert her <br />~esidence at 334 East Fifteenth Avenue into a two-family house. As there are to be <br />I ' <br />no exterior changes to the house, the Board recommends that the request be grante~, <br />30, ~nd the recommendation was unanimously approved. <br /> <br />I . Request was received from Richard Osborn asking for permission to move <br />fhe used car office from its present location just east of the Eugene Public Library <br />lito the car lot at 135 Tenth Avenue East, just east of the "Cooper" building. The <br />Board recommends that this request be granted for a period of one year and the <br />I, 31~ ~ecownendation was unanimously approyed. <br /> <br />, I Request was received from Ford A. Hand aSking for a permit to erect a <br />fiuplex residence on Lot 12, Block 11, Hendrick's Amended Addition. This lot is <br />[ocated on the southwest corner of the intersection of Sixteenth Avenue and Charnelto <br />'treet. fhe Board recommends that this request be granted, and the recommendation <br />32' ~as unanimously approved. <br /> <br />I Communication was presented from Mrs. V.D. Scobert'requesting permission to <br />I construct houses on the west end of her lots instead of the east end as previously <br />33' granted and the request was referred to the Board of Appeals. <br /> <br />I ~w <br />Monthly repo~ts were.presented from the. offices of the, City Engineer &.a4 <br />Cement Sidewalk Repa1rs, Po11ce Matron~ and Po11ce Department. Report for the month <br />bf July showing a collection of $1,721.63 for sewage disposal charges was also presen ed <br />34 ~ll reports were ordered placed on file. <br /> <br />r A petition was presented from Spencer Creek Grange ~o. 85?, asking ~he city <br />council to remove all limit parking signs from the streets 1n res1dent sect10ns, and <br />~lso that two hour parking signs be placed around both parks, jail and court house <br />35 ~ots. The communication was referred to the Police Committee to report back. <br /> <br /> <br />..... <br />
